Hi! I'm AlphaEnt and I want to share this mod i've made.

I've called it "Left 4 Doom" or "L4DOOM", for short.

The origin of this mod:

I've originally ripped two weapons at 16:9 by experimental purposes only...
Since they ended so well, decided to rip the remaining weaponry =P
The final result becomes on this mod.

This mod was originally designed for Deathmatch, since Left 4 dead 2 doesn't included a proper deathmatch mode and because those weapons looks nice (at least, my opinion), i thought a DM should be at least, interesting.
Later, by popular demand made it coop compatible among other things and there it is, the Left 4 Doom as we know.
I've tested it with several friends and turns out to be a funny experience. Hope you have the same experience as well. =P



A short description:

The best of both worlds: Left 4 Doom, combines Left 4 Dead 2 armoury and responsiveness with Doom theme, physics and engine.
This mod was inspired in deathmatch mode, sine L4D lacks of this gametype. (Earlier version of this mod, were known as Left 4 Deathmatch XD)
Eventualy, due to popular demand, decided to make it Coop compatible.
After several tests and mostly good reviews, finally decided to release the mod in question.



Some new stuff in this mod:
- You can choose between eight characters, each one with their own voices.
- Most items aren't instant use, You must select them and use them (like if they're weapons).
- You can interrumpt you reload, by changing your weapons.
- In most cases, you can carry one weapon per slot..
- When your health is below 30 hp, you can't run (sp, coop).
among other things...

Seems good I'll have to try it. I would love to see a collaboration with this and the zomb8 mod as that mod has the perfect(ish) maps that copy L4d's style.

Nope, that's Coach from Left 4 Dead 2.

Nice mod BTW, it's what Zomb-8 wasn't in terms of gameplay. Had nice maps though.

This looks good, but I'd go even further and attempt to replicate the classic L4D gameplay, zombies and such. Heck, I could see a VS mode like the one in L4D being popular here if done properly.

I've tried to do some maps, since i've managed to extract most of the L4D2's textures, but i'm not that skillful at levels design.

Asked some people if they wanted to contribute to the project, as no one responded (and if they did, they were busy at the moment), decided to keep the normal Doom maps, since I like them. I've did some levels With Oblige Level maker, but don't included in the release.

I like that The mod can also do human vs human Team Deathmatch thats something game devs don't really touch on. In a zombie invasion you would have groups fighting over resources. By the way why are Rochelle and Zoey switched between groups?

You know, earlier versions of this mod (when it was made for GZDoom only) it did contained some LD42 monsters, ripped by DBThanatos...

Back then, before you start the game, you were able to choose between regular Doom monsters or L4D themed monsters.

Since i've used them without premission and also, turned my mod into multiplayer sourceports, decided to keep the Doom monsters...

I have some reasons for that decision ;)
Additional Filesize, multiplayer compatibility (coop, invasion), The intention to don't break most of the Doom gameplayability, converting those monsters into multiplayer was a pain to me, etc...
And the last and most personal reason: I just really like the Doom monsters.

Hehe, i know L4D zombies fits better in this rip, but it's my personal twist in the project. ;)

It's also, a personal twist. I liked how the overall team voices sounded. By the moment i don't have some good story about how they met.

I was working on something like this a year ago. The idea was to create a sort of "Marines Vs Monsters" gamemode where the demons would start off as ghosts (ala L4D) and spawn after pressing the fire button, and the Marines (survivors) would have to get to the end of the map (safe room). I got sidetracked while working on this however and it never came to fruition. I would like to help however I can though.

Here is a video of it in action:

Ugh.. Mega.... Can't figure that site out, because from the way it looks.. it downloads the file to another server, thus making you wait more, then you get to download it..

Anyhow, I like this. However.. if you want to stay true to L4D style, you need to make it to where you can carry only 2 guns. And have a blue/teal outline over items you can pick up, and make it to where you can only pick them up with a keybind.

Also, the blood from l4d may not fit in Doom.. it just looks awful and scaled horribly big. But eh.. which ever way you wanna go with that.

The rar itself is a bit much. I know you are trying to help people out but well.. I dunno. Maybe have some of the stuff like the vids or something in another rar file. People still don't have good net.. (Granted that I once had a good connection, but now I don't) and well 100+ mb is a bit much for some.

Overall, great work, and I hope to see Coop Someday, or maybe Survival. If only zombies would work correctly in Doom.. I remember that one other mod, it would start out good, but after awhile, the zombies would just lag the game to no end.

Yeah, I don't like Mega neither, but I have some troubles uploading files to other pages like Mediafire or Rapidshare, since they delete the files after some time...
I've proved that if you download from mega, with an Download accelerator, it didn't work. Disabling the download accelerator might works fine in that case.

I know how to do the 2 weapons thing. But, for being honest, I personally wanted to apply those personal twists in the mod. I mean, I didn't wanted to make an accurate rip of L4D, but something fun to be played in deathmatch (or coop) pretty much like an fast-paced game or multiplayer.

Of course, an accurate rip of L4D might be posibly done in the future (or as an alternate version of the actual project).

Yeah, it's kinda big, I've fixed it. Made it smaller for incoming release.

Yeah, I know it's kinda big (I didn't have internet until last week), that's why i've splitted it into 2 separate downloads and made the High res rips optional.

I've made those videos because most of the time, people always asks me about how to install my mod's. (Since videos are only 5 mb, decided to keep it. As much, it could be an extra minute of download, like it happened to me most of the times in the past :wink: )

Sounds are compressed to Ogg and Sprites are compressed to 8bpp, so it's as light as I could.

Well, it can actually be played on Coop, singleplayer and Survival. Survival levels can be completed. Tested it by myself and some friends :wink:

Any chance someone can help edit this to be more standalone, so it can be more compatible with other mods like herc_up or rga guns while still maybe having the health kits/stims & maybe adrenaline & pipe bombs without rga's health regen.
