uh term
why are you including lelweps in a wad that's meant to be scary?
like seriously man you don't instill fear into someone by giving them a gun that fills the room with plasma that clears out nuts.wad in one shot
on the plus side it is fucking hilarious so I guess you get points for that
edit: wait hold on that was the point

RE: Buttpain.pk3
Well, that certainly deserves an explanation, doesn't it? All right, time for a little background.
I love horror. I love horror critters, I love horror stories, I love the themes and motifs behind horror. I'm a nerd when it comes to horror...as opposed to being a nerd about hundreds of other things.
And when that Creepypasta Doom topic popped up (no offense to the lad behind it, I wish him well on the project), it caused me to think a bit--there hasn't really been a single decent horror wad for the engine yet.
Lord knows there's certainly been attempts. People have tried porting stories and other games or making their own experience, but usually fall flat by either relying on jump scares, gimping the player to the point of uselessness, or trying to mix vanilla combat in...which, well, kills the entire thing.
Then there's the genuinely good attempts, like Spacedie (which actually builds an atmosphere and paces you around a bit) and Unhinged (which has genuinely disturbing enemies and atmosphere), but they suffer from the same problem a lot of other horror games have--you play through them once, and...well, you're done. You've experienced it.
It's good, and you'd like to go through them again another time, but it won't be the same. You already know what's coming.
So with this, I decided to try an experiment. The core idea of horror is that of "not being sure"--put a defenseless player in imminent danger and make their fate uncertain, and you might hit something.
So the big idea of this is that of deception and randomization. It's compatible with thousands of vanilla megawads and hundreds of non-vanilla megawads, but they're no longer the locales of jumping and gunning and running through. Now, every corner might hold a dark beast willing to tear your ass apart. Or sometimes they might just make noises at you and watch your reaction. Or sometimes they won't do anything at all and will just...watch, quietly. And you are utterly, completely helpless to stop them.
So, of course, to accentuate the deception, I put up a trailer about you being a big giant badass killing the unkillable--so you would go in expecting killer weapons and...instead, be utterly helpless.
And for some people, it worked--I watched a friend play on Skype and saw him turn into a crying, sobbing fit who quit the game a few levels in and nearly shut the call down. I saw several people on /vr/ display varying levels of NOPE, with my personal favorite being Medic's playthrough.
And for other people, it didn't. I saw some people roll their eyes at me, and heard complaints like "What's the point?", "This mod is only useful for speedrunning", and "LITERALLY NOTHING IS HAPPENING".
I'm curious as to what you think, though. What were your reactions?
What do you think worked?
What do you think didn't work?
Did you like it, or think it was lame?

I like the idea and the execution, but there is really not much to it. Also, for what I can see it is just playing maps with limited vision? (didn't try it, is in school)
I must however say that I am among the latter part, rolling the eyes a bit, because I just can not see the gameplay aspect of this at all.

RE: Buttpain.pk3
When I first watched the fake trailer, I was all like 'Oh My Gaaaawd! All the coolest weapons, mixed with all the cooler wads that exist on Zanzan! GOTTA CATCH IT YOLOOOO'
Then, I ran it for the first time. The main menu was.... not exactly what I had expected. my emotion fell from 'WOO' level to 'uh, woo?' level. But still, it is Terminus' mod I was playing, right? So I knew there is simply no way I would just skip it. You are famous for doing mods with epic gameplay, after all.
Then I started playing. At first, it was all pitch black. I uhh-ed. Then I noticed the lack of pistol, and that led me to conclusion that I probably have a new weapon. So I used fire, and then it dawned upon me. My emotion grew back to 'Oh My Gaaaaaawd! It's that dark mod from Zdoom! It finally got ported to Zanzan!'
And so, I played it. The first time I heard something growl, I was a bit taken aback. I quickly checked whether I was alone or not, and noticed nothing out of ordinary. Then, I kid you not, I turned off the game. Call me a pansy but I don't like being hunted by something I don't see! :P

The BE server was arguably tainted by none of the beasts appearing for several maps.
And morons.
And that one time where the cowboy ghost camped a key making map progress impossible.
And Roman being bad.

RE: Buttpain.pk3
The Ghoul's Forest trilogy ((excluding 1)) were good horror mods ((I still want a new ghoul mod though since playing ghoul3 is over and over is getting stale.)) and Lasting Light is pretty cool too. But anyway this seems nice ((And alot like lasting light)) from what I can see. I'll try it later today ((probably with my friend just because I'm a pussy :P))
EDIT: BTW is this MP compatable?
