As for your next question, do you mean like using 3D Doom models with Freedoom or other games directly made from Doom? If you load 3D models for Doom monsters, weapons, enemies, etc., then any other game that share assets or code with Doom will accept and use the models, too. e.g. Chex Quest, Freedoom.
Yes, if there's an actor code and a model code, the model loads into the game even without sprites. In these screenshots, I used ipk3 file that don't contain monster sprites, but their models still load if I upload a model pack ds-models.pk3 along with the ipk3.

I wanted to ask if it is encouraged (or not encouraged) to upload models to my game that does not have commercial Doom-wads and resources? Am I correct in understanding that these models weren't created by id Software and aren't subject to the same strict restrictions as sprites and other Doom assets? And can FreeDoom-like games be created using them, with full credits, of course?
For freeware projects based on Doom? I think that's probably fine.

Then you really don't have anything to worry about. Except for some members new and old who have stuck around, the community is a shell of what it used to be.
Realistically, nobody's gonna care that much, but I''m interested. :)
