See that? That is most certainly not a mature community. So if it's not that bad, I can dig it.
Ehh...that's not a good measuring stick imo. The Xbox live community is comparable to the excessive retardedness of /b/, only without the occasional glint of intelligence. Any massive community, especially those with mandatory membership requirements for use of service (namely, Xbox LIVE), don't really have a good collective attribute. (Well, except for stupidity. You can find that in droves on LIVE.) As a matter of fact, I'd wager that the larger the community is the lower you'd rate it as a whole in terms of maturity. Because when you get people into large groups...........

I understand you're making a specific comparison of a subsection of that community, but it IS composed of the 360 players and their detractors.

Whining and bitching about people lagging because they're kicking their ass and having little kids in the server and treating them like dirt because they can't don't know what a mute button is. (that last one is not for doom, obviously, but you know what I mean)
Shut up, nurse!

Well you can't really compare the Zandronum community to the XBL community. Zandronum has like 20 to 40 players online at any given time (not counting MM8BDM) and XBL has like, half a million at any given time.

Although personally, I don't think that population size always correlates to immaturity. I mean take a look at the Steam community. I mean yeah maybe it's filled with tons of bronies, furries, and creepy 40-year-old players with lisps (no joke), but it's still a much less socially-hostile environment than XBL.

My younger brother has aspergers and he plays TF2 and other steam games (like CS:GO) for an average of 6 hours a day. No joke. But to be honest, I'd much rather he play Steam all day than XBox Live. I think it's safe to say that the Steam playerbase is more well-managed than Live or PSN.

I would argue that Steam probably has more sophisticated users in terms of both intelligence and technical ability with computers. And I believe those two are related. ;) About 10 years ago, I would have said that turning to pc gaming exclusively was stupid only because of the number of titles that were console exclusives. Nowadays, since I have learned a great deal more about computers in general, I can't make that argument with any validity especially considering how inferior consoles are to pcs. (Even to one as old as mine.) The very purpose of consoles is to create a uniform platform for players to use. So I believe that you could argue, without much disparity, that pc gamers are more technologically sophisticated (and hence more intelligent on average) than console gamers in general. (I also think that you'd find pc gamers more introverted as compared to console only gamers.)
On the note of size difference, XBL is disproportionately filled with fucktards. I can go 3 games (maybe) of Black Ops 2 without hearing a racial slur or misogynic comment. (By my own admission, heavy COD players are notoriously stupid trash talkers.) PSN doesn't have quite so many idiots. I have often wondered if maybe that the community reaches a "retard critical mass" and suddenly begins to spread ignorance.

A mature community would be where people have the right to have an opinion without being critisized. Where people have brains and think before they act. Where people aren't acting like spoiled little kids. Sounds good enough? :)

A world without criticism is a world filled with stupidity. You cannot have free thought without the freedom to criticize that thought. Also, acceptance of criticism is a sign of maturity. It's a sign that you recognize and respect the validity of opinions opposed to your own. You are, of course, free to disagree vocally with that opinion as well. And with that thought...onto the brony thread......

Well, continuous criticism on the same thing, over and over again, just can't be seen as mature. There has to be a line...right? Sorry for not mentioning this beforehand. And with that thought, Spottswoode, good luck on your brony discussions! :)

It CAN and is. American politicians have debated and criticized each over States' rights Vs. Federal government expansion since the country was founded. The two primary groups today even share almost identical opinions to the Federalist and Anti-federalist parties of the framers. A strong opinion does not give way just to subside conflict. If you believe in something, you should fight for it. Nothing childish about that.

It's a fine line. Continuous criticism without due cause is immature since the person can't let it go/has problems-- however: continuous criticism in the case of someone not shutting the fuck up/realizing the person posting the crap is not welcome IMO is completely warranted (and should be encouraged).

Constructive criticism should always be welcomed. Destructive criticism should be welcomed when it is warranted. Making criticisms just to hear yourself talk or piss someone off is doing neither. (Trolling)

Although this is much more real life related than internet related, I still felt the need to express that.

A mature community is a community that doesn't laugh all of their asses off every time you use word "suck" with a meaning that has nothing to do with oral sex.
