Music Covers by Xeotroid (February 2018 - Icarus v2)

#1

Post by Xeotroid » Fri Jun 26, 2015 11:02 am

I've released a couple of musical covers, but not here on Zandronum forums plus they were all in separate threads making it mess to navigate. So here they are with versions both for Zandronum and (G)ZDoom (see notes for difference). Enjoy!
All links lead to my Mega account, I hope you don't mind, I'm not going to change it unless I get major negative feedback. Any feedback is welcome, though.

Newest cover:
Icarus: Alien Vanguard - v2 16-02-2018
I really hated the original cover I did, so here's a new one! Listen to it on YouTube.

Download links:

Want to use my covers? Read this!
Spoiler: Some legal things (Open)
You can use any of this music in your own projects, videos etc., but give me credit (my name or nick + name of the cover album), let it be in credits with other people, or a video description, whatever. If you want to be super classy, PM me when you use my music, so I can check it out! ;)
Other and technical things of less interest:
Spoiler: Boring notes (Open)
The difference between Zandronum and ZDoom-only versions is size, because Zandronum doesn't support SNDINFO's $musicalias.

MP3 bit rate is at 320kbps and in-game audio is at level 5 Ogg Vorbis.

Good work, Xeotroid. I didn't listen to all, but it's good.

Remember, people don't respond to this thread because 1) they liked it, and there's nothing bad to say, and 2) they ignored the thread because title said "Music covers" instead of "Music" because maybe they don't know what "Music covers" means. I personally would have ignored this thread because it said "Music covers", because the phrase "Music covers" means nothing to people like me (non-musicians).

Thanks. (Wall of text about terms incoming) I called those 'remasters' before, but that's completely wrong, because that's just cleaning old recordings or transferring them from LP disks to CD etc.
It's not a remake, either, because I used the original MIDI files - it's not from scratch. Remix would require completely changing it with some of the original music / melody in it.
Covers are technically correct, even though it still sounds like I'm making videos of me playing a guitar (which I can't do, sadly).

That could work, but isn't that a bit hacky workaround? Isn't this block supposed to be unchanged, or something like that?

EDIT: Doesn't it also prevent other mods change the duplicate music tracks? For instance, Requiem has different D_STALKS and D_STLKS2 and 3. If there was a different mod that loaded after my cover mod, it would play my D_STALKS instead of the said mod's tracks.

May I suggest that, for any music pack that doesn't use ZDoom's exclusive features, you re-pack them as WAD archives instead? That way, they're lighter and compatible with more source ports.

Would this contradict my suggestion?

So, I checked out Memento Mori II as suggested and couldn't resist. This one started back in August and was supposed to be released last month, but thanks to some problems I'm releasing it on Christmas. Did I say Merry Christmas?

Enjoy!

Not really, I'm not a big fan of TNT's soundtrack. There are some good tracks but they're not really my cup of tea. I might look into it sometimes, but some other megawads are higher on my list of priorities.
I did make a cover of the intermission screen from Evilution, though:

Get it in the main post, and it's on YouTube, as well!

(OT: If you want some more, I recently made a cover of a 40-minute symphonic power metal module file, The False Prophet, check it out!)

EDIT: Updated the main post, so it's easier to navigate and more compact. Also fixed Plutonia 2 cover name being titled Memento Mori. I'm not even tired... :v:

I reaaally like Ancient Aliens and the music is out of this world, so I decided to smash my head against the keyboard play around with it and I think it's starting to look pretty good. Date of release is unknown, but it hopefully won't take longer than a month.
There's two tracks in here, by the way, just so you know.
