Mr.Man wrote: What i meant with slade is not custom monsters and all that advanced shit. I meand your own map name, music and of course, if you want, textures and custom sounds. But really, those wads are advanced as f*ck, you could try ripping stuff from my level, which is less advanced. I give you my permission ;)

NOTE: MAPINFO is the most major thing you might want to take a look at

Oh, if you are going to play it, you will need the zombie horde wads. But dont use testpack r_11, use r_10

Not too bad for a start to mapping, it's better than a lot of starts since it doesn't try to do too much at once. A bit of advice that will go a long way is to take a look at maps other people have made, and take example, that's a good way to learn more about mapping, look at the original doom maps, custom made maps, wander around Doomworld Idgames looking at wads at random, you might find a gem. Keep going, this is a good start.

Alright, I'm seeing a few ideas with the room itself, but it need a lot of work, for starters, the lava pit you have should be in a room of it's own, either something esthetic, or make it into a puzzle for a player to figure out, that one is more singleplayer. The doughnut looks like it would be a cage of some sort, but mostly, those line commands you have for W1Door Open Stay, wont really work without Tags. A Tag is something that tells the game to activate what ever line command on a certain sector, Look around Ultimate Doom E2M2, that will give some more example of that. Something else to remember when mapping with the original settings, the letters before a command means something different, W1 is walk over once, WR is walk over repeatedly, S1 is switch once, SR is switch repeatedly, G1 is gun once, and GR is gun repeatedly, those last two you shoot the line with something, even your fist. I only type this down because I'm sure you're using Doombuilder 2, that doesn't tell these commands. Last note, try to use more textures than the default setting Starwall and flats, mess around with some other textures.

So far everything is alright, just try not to make too complex of rooms and shapes too early on, get a hang of mapping in general, also make sure you have textures in the right place. The reason to avoid too much complexity is so everything renders correctly, I was noticing some errors when I played the map compared to looking in Doom builder, it looks like a few sectors didn't combine correctly, make sure to draw the entire shape of a sector, just to be careful. Going back to textures, I saw a few middle textures that were out of place, in the line options, there are 3 spaces for a line on the front and back side of them, The right and left are top and bottom, the center is the middle texture, which is usually saved for things like cages.
Don't be afraid to scrap a map completely, sometimes you have too, or remove a part and start again, and like I've been saying, look at how other maps were made, and try to replicate what they did through trial and error, just open Doom builder and look around Doom1's maps.
Doom builder 2 isn't too friendly to new mappers, the first one was, but it hasn't aged too well, so, just do your best and learn from others.

This is something in my opinion, but i would use gzdoombuilder. It has some usefull extra features. But doom builder 2 is great too, because those extra features are more advanced.

Also, screenshots .-.

It's surely getting somewhere. This will be a big step, but maybe use MAPINFO and a custom music. It can be MP3, and MAPINFO can be ripped from my level and changed to whatever you like. You need slade for this. You can also use my music if you like, its mine. Then you dont need to change music in MAPINFO

In case your level doesnt show up after adding MAPINFO, then replace MAPINFO under MAP01 (or whatever mapnumber you used)

In my honest opinion, I think mapinfo and all that should be saved for later, not too long but long though, mostly a thing of get a hold of mapping before full editing. that's why the ZDoom wiki exists.

Yeah but its always great to have this experience with you already, because its one of the most nessecary things needed for a map. So i thought it would be handy to tell already. And also, why not?

Woah woah, projects are pretty high taken  I would still stick to learning. Before doing projects, i would really learn how to:
-3d floor (maybe even 3d slope)
-MAPINFO
-script

But if its going to stay doom format, i would only do MAPINFO. Thats what i ment with handyness :L

Try avoiding using MP3's because they can really make the file size of a wad go up, find ways to compress the music files so they're more download friendly. I wish you the best of luck with any projects you may start, just don't over work yourself early on.

If you look in my level, you can see that my music is OGG. That would be one of the best sizes. You can easily compress on internet sizes, just be sure not to download anything, because legit sites dont do that.

Audacity is a good program for converting things to OGG.

No program, internet sites also works very good. Just be sure not to download anything if they ask you too, because legit sites dont need that.
http://media.io/ is a very good site, i always used it. But it looks like it changed alot. But it should still do the trick

EDIT: I would advise converting to the lowest quality possible. You wont, or barely, hear a difference. I never hear a difference with my headset. Saves lots of size.

EDIT 2 : i gtg, you can use my map for inspiration. Or just ask the rest in here :L

also a good idea is to have height variation in your maps, otherwise it wil be very flat and dull.

detail is another thing its good to have some but never overdo it.
still having a good flow and gameplay is always the most importand aspect.

all this fuckery with with zdoom lumps and coding is a bit overboard just stick to mapping for now, otherwise it all just comes at once and might overwelm you.
