As some of you know GVH-LOD has some custom text colouring included within the mod, I myself contributing to many of the newest ones in the latest release!

The idea of having new colours to play about with opens fun options for player names amongst other uses.

My proposal is a very small PK3 add-on that can be applied to servers to allow unique colours to be available to the public for their use. It would be universal and would work with any mod as all the PK3 includes is a TEXTCOLOR.txt lump and nothing more.

When I made newer colours for LOD I wanted a couple more unique designs, some themed to the Ghouls, some random colours and a couple just for fun!

What would you guys say to this if I were to make said server add-on for popular servers? It also can be for general use if a Modder wished for new colours for their own mod when the default Zdoom defaults are not enough.

I already have a few planned, not over the top and unreadable- we're talking shades pleasant to the eyes, colours not normally available and some themed- for example I have made text look like Gold, Silver and Bronze!

Of course there will be some silly ones but mainly it'll be all in good taste!

What I would like to know is that would there be server hosts interested in the idea too- like I said the file size is barely anything compared to most WADS nowadays and it would be one of those little things that make names and other text a lot more unique within the community!

HOW TO USE?
Just plop the PK3 into your Skins folder and that is all there is to it!
Anyone else using it will be able to use the same colours and you'll both see them.

To use the codes in game just do \c[XX] and it'll work just like any other standard coding.

I think it won't even need to be PK3 if it has only one lump.

PK3 Makes it easier to access the TXT file without using special stuff- all I have to do is edit it right inside of WinRAR~

I have 13 colours made up already and it's still only 1KB :P

Thank you! I dislike many of the colors in NS or LOD because they're hard to read. As long as the colors are easy on the eyes, I would rather enjoy having this available.

Yeah I will admit I did go a little over the top with a couple, however many of the older ones in there are just a mess! XD

Don't worry I've been experimenting for a little while now and I've got the method down perfectly. Photoshop is a godsend sometimes :P

More colors would be a godsend, the normal ones are getting a bit dull sometimes if you want to make your name look fancy.

you can put this in your skins folder, but be aware that any unknown colours get rendered as "no translation", which in doom's case is red

keep that in mind when you do this; other people will see red where these special colours are

Of course I do have that in mind. I learned this firsthandly when I used few of my binds which used GVH NS colors outside of GVH NS (and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one).

Well this isn't intended to be in the Skin folder- this would be included in the server wad list- so that everyone can use them!
Just taken some shots- updating the original post now with the examples I've made so far...I will be adjusting a couple of them. Also the outline is a tad lighter on the larger text that the small text so contrast won't be a big deal on some!

I support this, Zandronum has not received a new color since it's launch, so this is a good way to compensate for it.

Border colours? It's a thing- I made a couple based on the ones in LOD (also in the updated versions of it) so that is certainly a thing!

Just realised too I missed a shade when copying into a PNG for that...so ignore that transparent line on the rainbow one :P

I vote for these to be included in Zandronum by default, as long as that doesn't interfere with ZDoom backport ability.

They're nice, but I feel like that would make it harder to update and prevent server admins from disabling it if they think it's unreadable ("Black Steel" looks like it's getting there).

I've made similar to them- but not exactly the same- slight difference in the code means there is less colour "noise" in the borders~

Agreed- I would rather keep these as a PK3 to be included in server lists- I may make Black Steel a tad lighter too- like I said these are all easy to edit and make so I'm not fussed...and opinions are good! :D

There are so many good colors that I dunno which ones I would use >.<
Keep up the good work, and the naming is epic BTW.

NOTE: I can see some of these text colors being used in wads, they have potential for being used for speech (like if you got an evil flesh creature you can use bloody mess or something)
