Field Of View !
Field Of View !
So, i play QuakeLive as well as i play Zandronum, and i've been having trouble getting used to Zandronum again because i can't change my FOV settings ingame..
I was wondering if there was anyone else who's been having that? Or atleast wanting to change their FOV?
I mean who would agree on it, to just add a feature to Zandronum to set certain FOV's? Like: Min. 90 Max. 120 etc. AKA, you cannot change your FOV to anything lower than 90 and higher than 120.

Type fov [number] in console, enjoy.
RE: Field Of View !
I know, but you can't use it because servers usually disable it ;).Hypnotoad wrote: Type fov [number] in console, enjoy.
What i want is that they cap the FOV to something so that it can't be used in an advantage to zoom and stuff.

RE: Field Of View !
go on the bug tracker and suggest it
RE: Field Of View !
There is already a server cvar that allows/disallows clients changing FOV. But on competitive servers playing with different FOV would be considered cheating.

Well Konar6, explain me how it's cheating? You're not gonna try and tell me the entire community of QuakeLive cheats right ^^"?Konar6 wrote: There is already a server cvar that allows/disallows clients changing FOV. But on competitive servers playing with different FOV would be considered cheating.
The option to change is to use it to your own liking, but that's what i meant by capping FOV, to something within a range that keeps it fair still, so taht the player can't go fov 25 and chaingun someone on a long map, but can go to a Minimum of like.. 80 fov, and well increasing your fov doesn't have much of an impact on advantage really, it only helps some people aim better.
And oh, didn't notice that thread yet Medicris, has practicly the exact idea as i do, well I have the exact idea as in the thread there to be exact haha.

RE: Field Of View !
While this is true, unlike Quake, Doom never had the option of changing the FOV. Quake had it from the beginning and everyone was allowed to use it and it was standard to be able to modify it. Doom has always been locked to the FOV it has from default. Even source ports aimed at competition were skeptical to allow "widescreen fov" because technically it allows you to see more of the level than a player that uses a 4:3 ratio, which could be deemed unfair.Danzoa wrote: Well Konar6, explain me how it's cheating? The fact that quake players must turn their game into a horrible fucked up fisheyed texture-less abomination to remain competitive is one of the problems with quake in the first place.

RE: Field Of View !
Odamex does, but it has a server cvar that forces users to use a 4:3 ratio if the server aims to be vanilla. Admittedly hardly any servers use it though; the only one I am aware of is one of my own "Doom 2 Vanilla Deathmatch" servers.one_Two wrote: So do they allow widescreen fov?
ZDaemon does not currently support widescreen, and instead allows users to use pillarboxing to have a 4:3 ratio on a widescreen monitor. I think in the future it will allow widescreen, but like Odamex it will have a server controlled cvar to force users to a 4:3 ratio if the hosts wants it.

RE: Field Of View !
Well, i can't argue you on that one, it is true that WideScreen players are able to see more, but that could be fixed i think, if you're using the oda command thing, that forces people onto a 4:3 ratio, but you can still change FOV in that resolution.. I don't know if you would be able to see more than usual if you do so, probably a bit but not too much, it just stretches out the higher the FOV is, and to use that in an advantage would be dumb because going too high screw up your view in doom IMO, 110 is doable, and doesn't make me see much more than a regular 90 FOV.HeX9109 wrote:While this is true, unlike Quake, Doom never had the option of changing the FOV.
