Other than the subject matter, I think some shading is in order. Flat colors look exactly that: flat. Even Paper Mario has some shading. As for the walk cycle, it'd probably look much better if you used all 4 frames like Doomguy does (just review the sprites it uses), instead of using a duplicate frame as a 3-frame walk.
Also, you're being extremely limited by the program you're using. I highly recommend either Paint.NET (simple but powerful) or GIMP (advanced with tons of flexibility). MSpaint will never produce anything good proportionate to the effort you put into it. Except mspaintdoom
Just get a better program and the rest will hopefully follow naturally.

This is a lie. Tons of great pixel artists use Paint.Medicris wrote:MSpaint will never produce anything good proportionate to the effort you put into it.
Though for the life of me I can't tell why. Probably just for the elitism or something.
RE: [Skin Sprite Sheet] Doom Vercetti
I haven't really found it hard to produce stuff pixel by pixel, but you gotta know your thing.
If we're talking pixel art, then I would've probably switched to GrafX2 a long while ago, IF IT WASN'T FOR THE INTERFACE FROM 198-FUCK, that is.

I haven't tried Paint.net, but there's a few nifty little things MSPaint can do that Photoshop can't. I like to alternate back and forth between the two, such as when I need a line/curved line drawing tool that doesn't suck.XutaWoo wrote:This is a lie. Proportionate to the amount of effort you put into it? MSpaint comes dead last. Anything you can do in Paint, you can do in another program far easier and most likely with nicer results.XutaWoo wrote:This is a lie. EDIT: Terminus, think of Paint.NET as a really souped-up Paint with things like plugin support, filters, masking, layering and drawing tools to name a few. /ad

Yeah but Paint.NET is frustrating.Medicris wrote:Proportionate to the amount of effort you put into it? MSpaint comes dead last. Mind, I'm not saying that Paint is equal to Photoshop at all. Like, in any stretch of the imagination.Like what?
I'm totally serious on this; what?
I also don't have any plug-ins at all, so the stuff that I like may be in some sort of additional, uh, addition.
That being said, stuff that Paint has I've been missing in Photoshop is:
A: A Scale tool that doesn't automatically anti-alias everything. In Photoshop, the only way to do this is to adjust the entire Image Size and use the Nearest Neighbor resampling option.
B: As said before, a line/curved line tool. In fact, all of the polygon tools MSPaint has make for a nice starting point to provide shapes for Photoshop to make into actual things.
C: The ability to bold/italicize/underline ALL fonts, rather than just certain ones.

Profit!
Also, this is best done in RotSprite. Tedious as hell, yes. Works pretty well? That too.
Edit:
What the hell is going on with her foot. If that's supposed to be a knee, I'm afraid I'll have to tell you that it's a bit off.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that.Edit > Preferences > General -> Image Interpolation -> Nearest Neighbor

Still, MSPaint > Scale > PROFIT, with less having to swap back and forth in the preferences tool in order to achieve the same result. :p
And yeah, RotSprite is a magnificent tool as well.

RE: [Skin Sprite Sheet] Doom Vercetti
There's no reason to not have it on that, unless you specifically need it. In which case you'd just change a setting and that's it.
Also;
Unless you're some master guru at the art of animating everyshit.
Also;
Code: Select all
<@Bloax>: :psyduck:
<@Bloax>: DOES THIS GUY LIKE
<@Bloax>: EVEN TEST HIS STUFF
<@Bloax>: I'M SORRY
<@Bloax>: BUT I'M AFRAID THAT TO ANIMATE YOU HAVE TO LIKE
<@Bloax>: ACTUALLY SEE YOUR STUFF IN MOTION
RE: [Skin Sprite Sheet] Doom Vercetti
Uh bro, those are the sprites you usedthebestmlTBM wrote:Wow. Preety intresting animation.Bloax wrote:
He's noting how they don't animate very well. Like he said, do you check how your sprites look when animated before you call them finished?
And way to ignore his criticism on the weird knee
I'm not attacking you personally, but check your workflow. Draw, test ingame, then release. It also really helps to take a look at reference material to get an idea of proportions and spatial reasoning. Example: The eyes are too high up on her face and small compared to the original, the arms are too thin, and take another look at the hairstyle: The tied end of the hair has a more fanned shape at the end, and has some detail there. Right now, it looks sort of like a cape, especially from the back. The knee of the rear leg in the side frames is too far down, making the thighs very long and the shins very short. And last but not least, she don't got no curves, son. Yes, from what I remember the show did use stylized straight lines a lot, but they were dynamically angled instead of straight up and down.
EDIT: So I just saw this post and I have something to say.
If you think I'm being too harsh, don't take it personally. Criticism is supposed to drive you to improvement, because that's what being an artist is about. Art is a group effort, and you can learn from everyone. Simply calling it quits because others offer help is just screeching your progress as an artist to a complete halt. And no, I'm not talking about DeviantArt where you can post whatever and the comments will just be " I love it", I'm talking about real art from real artists who want you to be the best you can be.

To be honest, I kinda expected a mugshot to go with this. But I assume otherwise because it doesn't fit.

your opinion is invalid.
Great attitude there. Are you really sure you're 18+ like the advisory recommends you to be?Also I like Animes in Doom so I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK!
