Coop/Surv Wad Recommendations

#1

Post by 3Dfx » Sat Mar 30, 2013 3:30 pm

I'm looking for recommendations for some good Coop/Surv wads to play with a mate. I know there's a lot out there. I'll happily host a few 24 hour servers for a couples of days maybe weeks too so others can play the wads.

Anything ever under the Cacowards is fine. When I'm with my dad, I generally play Memento Mori or Plutonia because those are a little harder then the normal Doom, but still have a good flow without becoming ridiculous.

Eh, depends what you're after really. As far as playability goes, all the IWADs work if you're after something fast and easy -- enabling the MP monsters but keeping MP weapon spawns disabled (along with disabling respawning items and double ammo from pickups) can even turn Doom II into a reasonably challenging* affair if you're only using one life in Survival.

As far as PWADs go, the usual collection applies -- MM, MM2, Requiem, Revolution!, Demonfear, Icarus, AV... all that good shit that involves a bit more than holding down MOUSE1 for several minutes on every map. If it's good enough in SP, then chances are it's probably good fun in Survival too. Unless it doesn't fully support possible situations that can occur in co-op play, like a certain Icarus map which fucks up thanks to bullshit triggers that will block off areas if you die before hitting a swi-... oh, right.

Er, yeah. Those ones.

*Nothing ludicrous obviously, just something that requires some common sense every so often.
