Hello, I am going to purchase Ultimate DOOM today on Steam, and was wondering a few questions before I do:

1. Can I apply this to my Steam's DOOM?
2. Is there a good playerbase and always servers to join?
3. Can you play the episodes co-op online with this?

I can't wait to play DOOM online!

Hi there, welcome to Zandronum, Zanzan, Zanbabwe, whatever you wanna call it.

1. Yea you can.
2. There's always servers around that have gametypes like Co-Op, DeathMatch, CTF, etc. So you won't have to worry about there 'not' being any servers.
3. Yea you can. There's other gametypes around too that you can, and should, check out!

Hope you have fun around here!

Be sure to take part in Friday Night Fragfest and Saturday Night Survival! They're both very player-friendly weekly events that feature interesting and exciting wads, both old and new.

Also, since the playerbase is relatively small, the competitive scene is always dying for new members. If you like how the game feels, see how you do in a Deathmatch or CTF server. They're boatloads of fun.

I plan on it experiencing everything this has to offer. Also, just a random question, but does this support voice chat at all?

Not in game, but there is a (semi) recent listing of affiliated VOIP servers here. If you're looking for a way to talk to whoever is on your team in a game of public CTF, that's not supported (yet). However, if you want to hang out with a friend or two while playing the game, you will find at least one place on that list that will welcome you to using some of their server.

EDIT: In fact, I know for a fact that some of those IP's are probably wrong. You can easily find someone in-game who can lead you to a server, though. Also, now is a good time to suggest joining #zandronum on our irc.zandronum.com IRC server. Just get yourself a good IRC client and log in. It's a great way to keep in contact with other members of the community and stay updated on what's happening around town. You can find me on there under this name, if you've got any more questions.

Alright. I'll just be getting Ultimate Doom also, don't really have the money for any others yet. That'll be enough to play right?

There are a bunch of servers that play only using Ultimate Doom. Unfortunately, most of the servers frequented by players use Doom 2. If you want, I could always use some work done around the house. You can come over, mow the lawn, maybe water a few plants, and I'll buy you a copy.

Haha, sounds good. Like I said, I highly suggest getting an IRC client or finding a TS server. You can have fun if you play alone, but if you're playing with friends, it gets a million times better.

Yeah I plan to play online for the most part, so if doom 2 is the highest played, then that's what I want.

Yeah, the choice is pretty much between either getting just Doom 2, or getting the whole Doom Classic Complete pack on Steam. If you have the money, the Classic Complete bundle is worth getting since it comes with everything from Ultimate Doom to Final Doom, including the Master Levels wads that aren't sold in stores any more (that's what the extra $0.02 in the bundle price is).

Also, there is a vast selection of mods to play with, both off and online. BrutalDoom I highly recommend. Also, feel free to try out some classics like Alien Vendetta and Scythe 2.

I'll have to wait for that classic set for Friday when I get paid if I get that, which is probably what I should just do then.

Ah someone new, welcome lad.

Anyways yea there is much fun to be had here so id try everything this port has to offer.

Also if your a bit of a creative guy.. this port is mod-able (make your own maps, monsters etc.) If you're up for it, try making your own map too

Come to the dark side robitussin. We have igor.

But honestly get doom 2 if youre looking for good servers to join. Since not many people play vanilla doom anymore, may as well try some mods and good wads, like brutaldoom, samsara, hell revealed 2, deus vult II, and MANY many others.

Hello, welcome to the community.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting Doom II first because around 90% of the servers use that as an IWAD. I understand that Doom II's levels aren't as good as Doom's, but you will be able to play in a lot more servers if you get the second game first.

Blasphemy! Doom 2's were much more creative! I'm totally being objective here!
