A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
As I've been lurking on and off in this "new leaf" of a community and I must say, nothing as changed. Noting the future rather the now... I've seen that the same people who are now the ones who is running the community is rather the same people who create this mess in the first place. I think the problem is not the people who created the problem but rather the people who handle it. It's talk about Metal, *This is not a pro de-admin message* Her years of ineffectively handling known people proved that they're a problem and handle it in a bad way. I'm scared that she'll go back on her own administration ways and perform those people ineffectively. Rather not talk it through and play diplomat, she'll become the good old ban ban fuck off person of who she is. I think the problem is that many of the moderation and administration is that, they all have special interest people behind that. These people are not for the community... only themselves and those special interest groups like competitive scene and what not.

Things change. The stage before the "change" stage is the "understand where you were going wrong" stage. And from what I saw, the staff have realized what they have done wrongly.
First off, they are not going to hide anything anymore, as it was stated in a thread. The staff discussion forum is open for everyone to browse and share their thoughts.
Secondly, the way they treat users has changed too. Instead of replying with disrespectful messages, the staff now acts rather neutrally when intervention is needed.
Third, they are going to treat everyone equally. I remember that when I was in the FNF management group, I used to lurk in popular (in priv) people's warnings. All the warnings were like "Sorry, I like you, but stop doing that please", and sometimes a warning wouldn't be even issued. Now, I read a public thread dedicated to staff rules. Basically, a thread everyone can see, which states exactly how a staff member must act. And I also read that not following those rules will get the staff members kicked, based on their offense. So, I guess not even the staff will be spared for their wrong actions.
From my point of view, the staff has pretty much realized what they were doing wrong and they are putting effort in not letting such things happen ever again. This is an indicator that they have changed.
I don't know about you guys, but Zandronum doesn't feel like "The same Skulltag with a different name" to me. I am sure there are many people who, like me (and pretty much everyone who was disappointed at the former Skulltag community, as well as staff), want a fresh start, and they would also want to realize their mistakes and change for the good.
As for the old admins managing a refreshed community, I think they are smart enough to realize this. And instead of questioning their "radioactivity" in this community, I think we should put some faith in them, and, like them, we should also try to find our mistakes and change for the better.

I don't see Metal going back to her old ways anytime soon but as for the "people" who start and continue the problems are the real issues within Zandronum. I got voted Out by a select few people.. Not the "ENTIRE" community. but I'm not worried about it. I agree with most of the problems that were on skulltag havent changed here and they probably will never change. It's like these "SELECT FEW PEOPLE" run and control and think they have voice over a "ENTIRE" community.Reach Term wrote: As I've been lurking on and off in this "new leaf" of a community and I must say, nothing as changed. Leave the Community to voice their own oppinions not some random people who think they have big voice... better yet. Let the Administration do what they have to do and leave them alone. The problem might not even be the admins themselve as they were proclaimed to be on skulltag.
RE: A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
Personally, I digress. I see this as a continuation of the same drama that led skulltag to die. It is in fact the very same people who are still in charge, maybe one or two people may have left or joined, but it is still the same group over all.

Very true. As I said, just because they've "changed" doesn't mean have those same influences.KalFoxis wrote:

Neutral is key; however, it's too early to say they've went back to their old ways or not. I'd say give it a year, then we'll see their true colours. RE: A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
Skulltag died because of domain ownership issues. Zandronum does not have that.Twister wrote: Personally, I digress. I see this as a continuation of the same drama that led skulltag to die.
Before this could get out of hand, I would just like to say that we should just give it some time, because discussing such issues can devolve into drama (if the right people are involved) and pretty much cause the Zandronum community much harm before it even started.
As for the OP, all I can say is that you are perfectly fine as long as you don't get on the mods' bad side. If you didn't do something horrible, such as hack with full knowledge of the consequences, or impersonate a respected member of the community, you can be appealed if you present your issue in a civil way.

@op: To be fair, Metal and other mods are charged with keeping the peace while they have inadequate moderation tools, which make some of their moderations moot. That alone is enough to drive someone zarking insane. I don't hold the mods to any higher standard than myself. I think a bit of zeal and/or passion is required of a person for them to even want to be a mod.
Nobody's perfect. I think you have a grudge: Even if you don't actively engage in it. You seem unreceptive to the concepts of change and/or compromise.
I'd like to see if better mod tools might make better mods. Sounds reasonable to me.

I guess you are doom's equivalent of conspiracy theorists. there is none of this bullshit in the community and perhaps you should open your eyes. a whole lot of things are thriving in this new community, but no. apparently it's all OMG BAD ADMINS and OMG CATERING TO COMPETITIVE LOLOLOL
please
you relinquished your rights to say or comment on anything when you evaded. and evaded. and evaded again. I lost count how many times you actually evaded a just ban. you expect people to change but when you don't change and continue to violate rules that govern this entire community there will be no tears shed over you.anything kal said

Words to live by. IMHO, I've seen nothing but good changes in the new community, esp mods & devs.
As an experiment I've been testing their patience actively and have seen nothing but fairness. I've detected a sizable change: Previous similar actions would have gotten me banned in a heartbeat. I'm a bit sorry for that, but it's been enlightening. I may yet stick around and contribute more than just annoying snark.

While my past may have not been a bright one in the Skulltag community, I took my leave for a bit of time, had a nice breather and was able to come to my senses about many things.Reach Term wrote: As I've been lurking on and off in this "new leaf" of a community and I must say, nothing as changed. You have your opinions, and you're certainly entitled to them but it's time to move on from the past and look ahead to the good things that may arise, rather than just the bad, or in your case, what might go bad.
I'm perfectly willing and able to take criticism and suggestions on how things are going with myself and the rest of our staff. Even if you have any issues, you're more than welcome to come to me and chat. It's what I'm here for.
Our goal is to make this port a peaceful place for EVERYONE to enjoy, staff, users, developers, everyone. So if you have any suggestions on how to do so, feel free to speak up.

RE: A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
I want to take the time to emphasize this last point. If for some reason you feel like something governing the port is bothering you, we'll definitely at least try and make an attempt to resolve these issues, whether through action or talk depending on the matters presented, so please don't hesitate to message us for anything.Metal wrote: Our goal is to make this port a peaceful place for EVERYONE to enjoy, staff, users, developers, everyone. That wasn't fun for us :(
RE: A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
Indeed, as silly as some of it was, we did need to at least be put to our paces for a while to see how things would work with cases like this, at least that is how I'm viewing it in lights of this.Zap610 wrote: That wasn't fun for us :(
(For the record I have no idea who this guy is though so before anyone places an accusation that the staff knows who Replicant is and is in any way affiliated with our staff I'm going to shoot that down now)
RE: A two cents on a rather never-dying issue
"New leaf"? It's a continuation of Skulltag minus one person, and that one person was too busy to keep up with Skulltag and slowed things down and complicated everything for everyone. Without him things should run more efficiently and I imagine we'll see updates more often.
The notion of a whole brand new +200 players popping up and having all the <96f veteran players suddenly leave is puppies and rainbows. Communities for old games are known to be eccentric.
