[REBOOT] Hell Rising

#1

Post by Guardsoul » Thu Nov 29, 2012 8:26 am

So, after getting some more experience taking part in several projects like ZDCMP2, Zombie Horde, All Out Wars 2, Invasion Unleashed 2 and other stuff, I (finally) decided to reboot this project due to the continuous comments of people that want this to be done (not complaining about that!).

What´s going on now?

The main objective hasn´t changed:
- 3 episodes
- 32 maps
- Bunch of new enemies
- Stronghold weapons

So what´s new?

Welp, the main difference with the old version are the maps and the difficulty curve. All of them are new from scrath and some of them have some tributes to other ZDoom projects.

This doesn´t mean that old maps will be scrapped. They will be added as new levels with several tweaks to them.

Right, where is the download link?

Here: https://www.mediafire.com/?ke218j6u6e79bgc

But you better take a look at these fancy screenshots:

There are 5 fully playable maps at the moment. I´ll be updating the download link each time 5 new maps are done.

Enjoy!

Hi guys!

Due to good opinions and comments, this proyect will be developed to the end, of course I will upload new releases just to know what people think about it

Whats will be included:

- Added new enemies: its going to be around 30 new enemies (some of them from Realm667 and others completely new ones)
- Weapons from Stronghold
- 32 new maps from scratch

Some screenshots:
Went boom

Remember that this is just a demo and lot of works needs to be done. Right now I only need your opinion (please, give me a constructive critic). If someone wants to help me (stuff, maps, etc...) the help is welcome

It works fine in ZDoom, GZDoom, old Skulltag and Zandronum (Contanins some non-sloped 3D floors)

WARNING: Old release with levels 1 - 4!

Link: Not aviable anymore

Thanks for reading. Ill be waiting your answers!
I was really enjoying this project, except for one problem. There was only two levels. The maps are detailed and they look amazing, the extra enemies are nice, and I liked how non-linear the second map was. You definitely need to finish this.

I only made the first 2 levels just to see if people like it. Due to that people enjoys it I will create the whole megawad

I also upload the wad each time that I finish 5 maps, so people can tell me what needs to be fix.

Good to see that you like it

Fun levels and amazing detail. You put a lot of work into this and I can't wait for the next update.
And since you have lots of screenshots, you might want to put them all in a spoiler tag.

Due to incoming university exams, other proyects and events that are happening I cannot finish map05 in a short space  time but also dont want to leave you without a release too much time, so I have updated this version with maps 1 - 4. Hope you enjoy them until I finish map05  .

Just played levels 3-4. You win bonus points by having a train level. Again, the detail is amazing, I never feel lost in a map, the fights are intense, and conserving ammo is at the right level.

A minor complaint about the new intermission. If you hit the exit switch while there is an enemy in the room, it will continue to attack you as your stats display. This happened on MAP02 as I was ripped apart by a Baron of Hell after hitting the exit switch. Other than that, amazing job.

I like the new "intermission" screen a lot (it's very arcade-style), but sadly it's not widescreen-compatible, which ruins the effect. :/

This can easily be fixed with 3 minutes in Photoshop though. Just extend the sides of the COMPBLUE stuff so that it covers the widescreen area. :P
Reinforcements: midgame Survival joining/respawning
Doom64: Unabsolved: Doom64 + Diablo II
ZandroSkins: a pack made by our community
AeniPuffs: 3D blood and bullet puff effects, free to use for your own mods
Squad Radio: a WASD-based radio chat menu, add your own custom sounds!

Very nice maps so far, but one thing to keep in mind while making these maps is adding auto saves because if someone gets really far in a map and dies... they have to start all over again

Also i would suggest making some of the rooms a bit bigger and less crammed because fighting various enemies in a small space is not a good idea.

And one more thing, map04 had a lot of missing textures.

That's your fault for not saving often. :p
