GunLabs - For Beginning DECORATErs

GunLabs is a blog/guide site that I've been working on in my spare time. The tutorials within should help beginning modders for ZDoom and its derivatives, as they learn how to make basic weapons, and then proceed to add new sprites and sounds, add alternate firing modes, keep track of a weapon's state through inventory counters, and make their weapons fun to use.

The site is very much a work in progress; that said, don't let that dissuade you newer modders from reading up.

This may be what I need if I ever want to start DooM modding. Good luck with this!

Cool site! Definitely looking forward to future tutorials.

I don't suppose you'll have a tutorial demonstrating the artwork involved in making a gun? http://www.doomworld.com/gbd2/weapons/t ... s/gun1.htm This site is useful but i feel it lacks in depth explanation in certain fields.

I suppose you don't have a Tutorial of Making a Custom Statusbar and/or SBARInfo?

New Ammo Types and Weapons That Reload is now added to the Tutorials database, as is a retrospective on WW-Diaz in the Weasel's Mods section.

About your SNDINFO tutorial - using full paths will work, so

Code: Select all

somebullshitmod/pistolfire sounds/pistol/fire.ogg
will work just fine.

Edit: also you might wanna add that putting the damage of a projectile in parentheses omits the implicit randomness

What people really needs (I geuss, Its quite a personal problem that hard for me to solve) is a tutorial that all dumbfucks can understand, and everything, every single pixel is explained, making any kind of gfx is hard as F***, if there where such a tutorial (meh, scuba steves is good, but not good enough for alot of people), all they would have to do is check gunlabs, everything to know will be there.

EDIT: BTW you also need to add more stuff onto it, else it will die out quickly, since the first time i looked at it, nothing have changed...

Ah yes, for people who can't figure out how to google, wiki or even open a decorate file and read.

Its general etiquette that no one googles if he has a forum where he can ask something as obvious as the sun.

But many times you'll ask for a solution and get a solution in addition to extra stuff like alternatives and very helpful tips so it never bothers anyone to post questions on forums (If someone hates obvious questions just don't open the topic instead of flaming a new modder  )

If there's something you don't understand about my tutorials, please let me know what specifically, or I'll never be able to go back and fix them the way you need them to be fixed.

As for more tutorials? Meh, mostly can't be arsed, can't think of a lot of coding subjects that really need elaborating without flat-out telling my readers, "Here, copy-paste this, it'll work, shut up and don't ask questions."

I didnt really write understandable, wich I see now, what i actually think in an easyer way to understand:
WE NEED SOME 100% OBVIOUS GRAPHICS LESSONS, THOSE U REFEER TO JUST KIND OF SHOWS US WHAT HAPPENS IF -->THEY<-- DO SOMETHING, THEY DONT EXPLAIN HOW THEY DO STUFF, THEY JUST DO IT AND SHOWS US THE RESULTS OF WHAT THEY DO! AND OF THAT ONE ON THAT DOOMWORLD WIKI SOME LINKS ARE BROKEN MAKING THE TUTORIAL USELESS!
..... get it now? :3......

1. You do not need to shout.
2. You sound like you want screenshots. The things I'm teaching are not easily illustrated with screenshots. Video would be a waste.
3. It also sounds like you want tutorials about doing graphics, which is beyond my scope, as I am not an artist. (Really, I'm not sure if you're after #2 or #3 here.)

3, he wants 3.
