Website Update: Change of forum software

#1

Post by mifu » Thu Mar 10, 2016 9:08 am

Hey folks.

Its happening.

The happening is here. This weekend, is the time when we move back to some good forum software.

Remember phpbb? Yep, that's what we are going to use again.

All posts and account information will be kept however permissions will need to be set up again which is fine, we can do that.

Any questions, feel free to post here or MSG me.

There is a high chance that phpbb is going to be different so it may not even have that (but i think it does)

Custom titles are also apart of phpbb, if not I can always add an extension or something for it.

While I am working on some sort of old archive for that I am not going to be even hosting or merging it with the zandronum.com domain in any shape or form.

The reason being is, well I personally don't feel like having a certain someone come back from the dead only to complain that "You stole my site"

They're not his posts though. if you had an archive of every post itself it *might* be worth posting. but honestly I'm glad the ST forums are gone forever, and most of the images and URL's within posts are probably dead anyways.

Are you sure you want people necrobumping threads from 2009 like that? It's best as a read-only section methinks.

Ive been told by Blzut3 that I cant have it as part of the zandronum.com domain because of this reason. Lets just say we are avoiding any problems from the get-go

Well you all know how he is, he will still treat them as his stuff as long as he hosted the site. But seeing as he nuked the forums entirely he should have no problems.

Skulltag community is inalienable from Zandronum. Why should it be hosted as a community initiative and not official historical archive on archive.zandronum.com domain?
Is there any reason good enough to outweigh this argument?

Well, I see the official stance is that Carnevil might come here and see it. But then again — what happens? Nothing, except Carnevil getting mad after seeing that his hysterical emo action of trying to selfdestruct the forums didn't suffice.

If this didn't have the potential to have problems, it would have been done form the start. But I don't see any point in importing it here.
