Servers are still using an older version because this isn't a major update.

And most of the major service providers have already patched this bug.

This could cause a bit of a problem in the community, with half the servers using 1.2.1 and the other half of the servers using 1.2.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

Blzut3 fixed a problem, which made impossible for linux 1.2.1 clients to join a 1.2.1 server. ubuntu packages are updated as well.

Its not just you. I haven't played in a month or so, but my client updated just the same since then. I found a lot if not all the servers specially the [BE] New York's I ping well to are running v1.2 and I have 1.2.1 at the moment.
cyberman wrote: for some odd reason it says this when i try connecting to servers, "failed to connect. your version is different" which is weird considering that i have version 1.2.1, are i guess they are either using the older version, or it is just being an ass for me. this is so confusing ???

Just use 1.2 and wait for 1.3/2.0, problem solved. All big server clusters that matter fixed it for 1.2 anyway

Ok so.. BE did the big update over to 1.2.1.. HOWEVER, to those still using IDE. Go to Options>Launch Game Parameters and Untic the Enable Zandronum autotesting Box. And if you put 1.2.1 in another folder, point IDE to that folder.

You know.. I just don't know anymore.. Appealingly GV servers, you can connect with 1.2 just fine. But all other servers.. Ugh.. There is a huge conversation about it going on in #grandvoid about it right now.

I have tagged version 1.2.1a of my fork of Zandronum. It is a Zandronum server that reports itself as 1.2.1, but allows players stuck on 1.2 to connect to it. It also properly sets the "Release" flag which fixes issues with players trying to connect to the server using IDE who are being told to download a non-existant testing release (which is a known, unfixed issue with the actual 1.2.1 server release).

You can download the source tree here:

Source Tree as .zip
Source Tree as .tar.gz

Build instructions are the same as Zandronum itself. If you need me to provide binaries, I can. Note that this is a server-only update, clients don't need to worry about using this at all and can continue to use 1.2, 1.2.1 or Zan++.

The only limit to my freedom is the inevitable closure of the
universe, as inevitable as your own last breath. And yet,
there remains time to create, to create, and escape.

Escape will make me God.

How hard can it be to release a new build without the testing flag on the main site? (Like half an hour?)
This Should have been done immediatly after this bug got discovered. Ignoring this just caused too many problems and a community split.

You might as well release it as 1.2.2 to get rid of any confusion.

You are right. This is what we should do and I'll see if we can get this done during this weekend.

Some background information on why we ended up in this situation: I was traveling while the other devs decided to release 1.2.1 as immediate hotfix to solve some rampant exploits. When I returned, we decided to resolve the broken update by releasing 1.3 soon (which we planned to do anyway and would have saved everybody from updating twice in a short period of time). Unfortunately 1.3 got delayed more than expected and led to the current situation.
