OpenGL. I can see in places that software users can't. :>

OpenGL is cool but it really hinders you in competition by giving you such insane advantages compared to software players, like being able to turn off walls, make everything perfectly bright, see various things through walls with telefog/explosion GL lights, being able to look up and down no problem and probably other things that are in there I don't know about. If you only plan on playing Zandronum it's fine but if you go to any other port you'll be at a major disadvantage.
I turn it on for mods when I need it but the rest is software, sometimes I even stay software.

OpenGL because:
> Can look all the way up and down. <
All the special stuff it provides (dynamic lights, 3d models, PNG graphics, no force to palette, sector lighting control, etc).
If those benefits ceased to exist, I would switch to software in a heartbeat for the better performance.
A few maps can get really laggy in OpenGL too.

I suppose Software, because it's all Zandronum has on a Mac.
So, I guess I wouldn't be here if I needed OpenGL that badly. I miss out on a bunch of mods, though… :'(

OpenGL all the way! If I want original I'll fire up the .exe ones.

Software, only because openGL is so laggy for no reason. (Games running on the Unreal 3 engine is less laggy rofl)

Software, I think it goes with the game's art style. IIRC you can't see those cool Hexen shading lines in OpenGl, for example.
(That's the same reason I prefer Winquake rather than GlQuake)

Software for the most part, I only used OpenGL for the WADs that required it.

Clearly different.
Seriously though, I
thought me whining about OpenGL in a thread like this was oddly familiar…

Software, of course. I'm not some 7th grader who craves fake eye candy. OpenGL just looks gaudy.

Opengl without setting gamma and ambient light to max -actually sets gamma to 0.7 and ambient light off- & all filters off.
That way I still see the details the mappers try to put in their maps with light instead of everything being 255 brightness sectors...

Software for PvP gamemodes, OpenGL for coop/surv/singleplayer.
