Did not know good ole MP2E had a bro :O
Tell him I said hi :D

Anyways I got into Doom when it was just released as my dad would play it all the time (along with the other IDTech 1 games)

Doom (funny enough) has always been in my childhood.

The gore. The music. The weapons. EVERYTHING.

The Doom games are part of who I am and it will continue to remain that way till I draw my last breath.

I actually liked Wolfenstein 3D when I was really little, before I knew about DooM. I got attracted to these games mainly because they were better than all the other shooter games, like Call of Duty or Battlefield.

I would be sitting on my dad's knee watching him play doom 95, there was a map in episode 2 (forget which map number) with the green toxic and those faces on all the walls. I remember running out of the room crying every time I would see one of those weird faces or more specifically a cacodemon.

I was kinda hooked after that.

What I like about Doom is you get in shape pretty fast after not having played it for ~1 week legit. Besides, playing fastpaced fps games do help you alot. But playing totally different games (such as GTA) will need more time to adapt before finding the shape.

It was small, so I could download it from dial up. (but still one of the biggest ones that I downloaded from the site below)
It was 3D OMFG (fucking ms-dos configs where I couldn't get sound ;--; )
It had alot of levels on demo :D
It was a bit creepy on the time.
Plus it was one of the best games from the site freegamesonly.narod.ru (idk how did i found that website (shame it's closed, It had so many cool unknown games)

basically I played it with only pc speaker, after some time I did general midi correct config and at the end, the badass sound fucking blaster and the damn big configs D:

Because it's fun and you can pretty much never stop getting better at it. What other reason would you need? Maps and mods adding neverending challenge is another bonus.

On the technical and historical side, it was real impressive to boot and it's an interesting point in FPS evolution. Wolfenstein 3D is worth a playthrough for this, too.

Well, it was fortunate my informatics teacher gave me a diskette to store my school project on. It contained Doom. Back then I accidentally had destroyed my OS and stuck with a boot diskette with DOS for Windows 98. So picked inside the diskette and found an executable on it. DOOM.exe. Since I had nothing to do I run it. OMG, imagine how is that, to find a game that could be run under DOS! And yes, holy shit, but it's even 3D! My first run was abrupt when I got too scared, I didn't even manage to finish Hangar. But after a 5 mins break, when I finally realized what a gem I've found I got a strange obsession with the game and jumped back.

Well this is the precursor of FPS and here we can almost do everything.

Only a few games offer these arguments.

Started playing Doom 2 since I was 3 years old. I wasn't really into a lot of stuff, there were a couple of other games that I played too but I played through every level of Doom 2 so many times when I was a kid I have them all almost entirely memorized. I only played Doom 1 when I got it on the PS1 along with Final Doom. This game is simply too good and always will be.
