Fake domain links

#1

Post by Metal » Fri Sep 14, 2012 1:00 am

I'd like everyone to please be advised that http://zandronum.info/ And http://zandronum.org/ Do not link back here. They actually link to the ZDaemon website. What a coincidence!

Just letting everyone know that these are not our domains (Obviously) and to beware of Zandronum knock off's.

To the person who purchased these domains...

All we need now is to buy the Odamex.com domain and make the domain war full circle!

Pretty sure you can send a DMCA order towards them. If you're willing to do that or something.

Amazing! I wouldn't believe if they weren't behind it in some way.

Well whoever it was... he does know how to protect his/her identity.

This isn't some from of spastic trickery.

Hi everyone. Some of you might know me, most probably don't, but my name is Thad and I'm a moderator on the Zdaemon forums as well as a contributor to our news and website blogs.

You might not consider me 'staff' as I don't have a hand in development, but I just read about this on alt death and felt that this really should be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand.

Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves, it's a very underhanded tactic but in no way do I believe that any ZD staff member has anything to do with this. I think most probably someone has done this because either they are:

1) A ZD fan boy who thinks that all other ports suck no matter what evidence you provide to the contrary. I love ZD, but being a fanboy of anything is just close minded.

2) Someone wants to antagonise and create drama between both ports because they have some sort of beef with ZD staff (pretty likely imo).

3) Someone is doing it for the lulz.

I think there is more than enough room for ZD, Zandronum, and Odamex to operate and there's no need for there to be any animosity between the ports.

I personally think that Zandronum is a fantastic port and that all involved have done a sensational job. ZDaemon and Zandronum just have different goals from one another, interpreting DOOM in different ways. As far as I'm concerned the more popular Zandronum is, the more players there will be in the DOOM community which means we will all benefit from it.

I hope this doesn't descend into a slagging match between player bases or staff. It was a shit thing to do and I hope whoever did it gets caught.

Keep up the great work guys, and I look forward to playing some games with you all.

I hope you meant Zandronum, because if they didn't like ZD why would they intentionally increase website traffic by misdirecting intentional users of another port?
If you did mean to type ZD than it's obvious bias on your part.

Hi Thad, we appreciate you taking the time to clear this up. None of us actually believed ZDaemon was behind this just as Zandronum was not responsible for spamming your forums. The whole thing is kind of silly though. If someone attempted to do this to pit us against each other he or she failed. And if the purpose was to hype ZDaemon, then it would have the same effect as mistyping a link. Anyone from ZDaemon is welcome here, and I myself have been hanging around your chat as well.

Maybe he's referring to a person creating a rift between ZD and Zandronum, even though it's extra traffic I'd want to know what sites were redirecting to mine.

Zap610: Thank you for the kind welcome.

Llewellyn: We all have biases, but in this case what I meant was that there are those who would love to turn everyone and anything against ZD or its staff. It may sound paranoid, and perhaps it is, but I know people who would get a kick out of seeing Zandronum players rightfully defending their port, but by turning against ZD.

Like I said Zandronum is great and I hope people see that there is more than enough space for both ports and Odamex. Whatever port it is, I'm just delighted people still love playing DOOM! :)
