INVASION: Seaside Hotel & Misty Island

A few weeks ago I cooked up this little invasion map, mostly in response to my opinion that the stock invasion maps in Skulltag are wayy too flat and linear. Invasion modes have always been a personal favorite of mine in games (Uncharted 3 anyone?!?!?!) so I wanted to try doing the gamemode a little more justice.

I suppose this map is also guilty of being flat, but I hope its interconnectivity makes up for it. Everything about the design and item placement is pretty intentional, and it was made with the flow of a deathmatch map in mind.

Jumping and crouching are fine. Given that it's invasion it does require all the Skulltag resources if you're going to run it with Zandronum. It also needs textures from Darken 2 texture wad. Also, please make sure you run the wads in this order otherwise things might not work so well:

skulltag resources
darken2 resources
seaside hotel

oh yeah, and there's a kickass .mod included, which inspired the entire creation of the map. Comments and crits welcome (yes I know the gray texture is super flat and the grass tiles horribly, I will get to that essel). There might be a few bugs but I dunno. No difficulty settings yet, but it should work plenty well in coop with 4 players but probably no more.

Here's another one called Misty Island, which was also made from music inspiration. Same sorta deal, coop friendly for up to 4 players I'm sure (only tested with 2). load resources in the same way as Seaside Hotel ^, ie this one ALSO NEEDS DARKEN2 TEXTURES. Plays on Map02 slot. You could try loading it with Seaside Hotel but I dunno if it'll work. Don't remember. wuteva

I had a quick play through, was quite nice. Nice looking arcitecture. A little bit repetitive but then I'm not a massive fan of invasion anyway. Good map though.

Hey guys i have the Darken 2 Texture wad, Skulltag stuff (The .pk3's) and the Seaside hotel wad, But im getting this error:
Script error, "t-seaside.wad:DECORATE" line 423:
Replaced type 'Cacolantern' not found in CacolanternClone

They aren't being loaded in the right order. If Skulltag_Actors.pk3 isn't loaded first that will happen.

Hmm I got the same error and I loaded it in the right way, maybe I should check up on the forums, I am having loads of problems with other wads aswell, anyway here is how Zandronum added it.

 adding C:/Program Files (x86)/Zandronum/skins/dark2tex.wad (741 lumps)

EDIT: Got it working, it seems to work better when you load it in doomseeker the right way, now I can play a lot of stuff I've been wanting to play including Mercs.

... why are they in your skins folder? you can't connect to servers, can you?

Updating OP with another little invasion map, Misty Island. plays in map02 slot, needs same files, etc etc. see OP. this was made the day after I finished Seaside Hotel I think but I never realeased it loooool

Very fun. I just spent the past 70 minutes beating both maps by myself (in singleplayer, using saves).


The rage rune felt a little overkill in the first level, though.

I mean it makes the map too easy because you can combine it with the SSG and Doomsphere and just rape everything.

The rage rune on its own isn't overpowered, it just has high potential to be exploited in MAP01 due to the fact that other powerups are present closeby (and respawn every wave).

My recommendation is to replace it with resistance or drain.
