CYBERCRIME

For those of you who don't know who I am, I'm spare you the details of my absence from the online doom community and reintroduce myself.

Some may call me by my old screen name "DarkLinux" I have sense tossed this name out for personal reasons.

So here it is. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxSjVJ ... sp=sharing

The updates are far too many to list so I'll just say that it's several patches in one. I'm also going to take feedback and will update the wad accordingly.

Current version is 3.2.0.

-All the maps have been changed to an updated feel.
-Music and sounds are from unreal tournament and they are placeholder.
-Light sprites were created to feel a little more flashy.
-New textures and shrubs were added to several of the maps.
-Integrated the 3.1 version of the wad into the 3.2.0 version of the wad.
-Fixed many of the old script bugs, mainly the ones that were not being used.

Wow, that's really cool to see someone like you to be back. But why to change something that is already mega-superior?

Cybercrime is my most favorite doom set of wads I have ever played really, I tried to do something similiar numerous times.
In the new version it kinda lacks everything I liked it for: Expressive fast and fitting module music, minimalistic interior/exterior design of the levels energized with crazy skyboxes, scrolling things, overall color palette and such.
All this created an amazing strange and amorph, but true codedworld, that I want to stay in. I run some maps like 02 or 04 just to feel so time to time. I don't know why, but now some levels looks like an alpha versions of original, huge amount of enviroment seems to begone, some secrets removed, etc. And grass seems to be out of place IMO

I'm sorry to be so harsh, but I love this series of yours so much.

I wouldn't mind trying to keep that feeling, just wanted to update it to a more serious community. In case you guys don't know, ZDaemon is sorta dead these days. Plus, it keeps my mapping and coding skills up to speed should something else arrive.

I spent many days playing Cybercrime wayyyy back when I joined Skulltag on the russian servers (only ones hosting it lol)

Good times, wouldn't mind seeing some new maps if possible!

I would love to toss in some new maps. Right now I'm just trying to fix all the bugs and update it for Skulltag/Zandronum/etc.

Like Zeberpal said, please keep the original style of the maps as this is what made them very unique and memorable, especially the music. Cybercrime is my favourite deathmatch wad.

V3 was one of my favourite go to wads for FFA on ZDaemon back in the day, playing it these days brings back so much nostalgia.

This version however looks mauled compared to the original classic I played so much.

Those light flares are obnoxious and get in the way as do those shrub/dangling vine textures, they are no good for an FFA environment, they also look ugly and feel out of place. Why did you remove the scrolling numbers in the skyboxes and on some of the maps? That was like a trademark on this pack. As stated in an earlier post, lots of scenery is gone as are the secrets, no idea why you'd remove those because the maps now look/feel bland (though some of them already were but now it seems worse). The new music is dull compared to the old, why even change the tracks when they were one of the most memorable things in this.

I think you would have been better off creating an entire new pack instead of "updating" this, just IMO though. I normally don't even post criticism on here but I just had to with this, I spent so many days playing these.

This is exactly the sort of feedback I wanted to get from the community. I wanted to see what could be done and what should stay the same.

The main reason the music is replaced with the unreal soundtrack is because it's being used as a placeholder until I get a custom soundtrack for it.

I attempted to update the sounds to .ogg format and they came out sounding... Off, the original soundtrack was .mod format and was using a different style and it didn't fit with the updated sounds.

The reason many of the skyboxes were "butchered" is because I was testing some different styles. This is a beta for a reason. Anything in this could be subject to change.

Good to see you back around, as you can see people love what you made. What are the chances we will see a 4? :D

I consider this CYBERCRIME4 , I'll be updating it and fixing errors on the fly as well as adding new maps.

Please use different file names. Like for example, CybercrimeV2.pk3 or such. It will be annoying for both sides to keep track of the right file. Server and Client.

Welcome back!

I'd like to take this chance to thank you for introducing me to Elwood's music, I've definitely had some fun times with Cybercrime 3 over the years.

With that said, I have to echo what the others have said here, Cybercrime 3 had a more distinctive style, and IMO you'd be better off making new maps rather than trying to redo the old ones.

I'm not changing the name. Just version info. Ask for the updates they are for cosmetic purposes and to improve gameplay and overall flow.

Hello and welcome back!

I played the shit out of cybercrime 3 and I am liking what I am seeing here. Good job and good luck!

However I have to agree with Devilhunter. You may want to add version numbers to your file names. As a server hoster, I can vouch for the kind of rage and anguish people have when they join a server with a wad with the same name, only for zandronum to error out saying the wads are not the same. :P

I'm sorry, you ruined cybercrime. Should've just left it alone.
