AeniPuffs - pretty blood and sparky bullets

Wanna feel like your hitscan attacks are packing more of a punch? Do you like the particle effects of games that are only a few years newer than Doom? Then have we got a show for you ...

All this PK3 does is replace the boring Doom bulletpuffs and blood with some pretty model-based sparks, ricochets, and blood droplets. The blood puffs themselves have a nice misty effect like in Doom3, while the resulting splatter droplets can stick to the walls and floor.


Should work with any map or mod that doesn't replace the default blood/bulletpuffs.

NOTE: If you want blue blood for the cacodemons and green blood for the barons, use this patch and load it after aenipuffs_v4.pk3:

Changes:

  • v2:

  • Slightly less spark particles.
  • Fixed a bug where blood droplets wouldn't spawn online.

  • Better sounds.
  • More "splash" sprites, but not quite as much as Brutal Doom. :p
  • Added compatibility for the +AXEBLOOD and +BLOODSPLATTER flags.

  • Fixed: the blood droplet model didn't render because I accidentally gave it a Y-scale of 0.0. Whoopsie.
  • Better sounds.
  • Better PNG translucency for blood sprites.
  • Shaders for blood clouds and bullet smoke.
  • Blood spray patterns are much more consistent and less randomized now.

Awesome stuff! Just gave it a shot with Survivalism and it works nicely. :)

My first impression is that the sounds are totally fine. The yellow ricochet streaks might be a bit over the top, but I like that the blood puffs are modest. Good work!

Thanks! I can tone down the opacity of the ricochets if you think it would look better.

May be to reduce the number of particles, because it looks like fireworks. :smile:

Done.

I also fixed a bug that had to do with inheriting from "blood" directly which causes some weird desync and/or failed jumps online, so I circumvented that by having it instantly A_SpawnItemEx a seperate actor for the main blood.
