The Mansion: Ao Oni

Greetings, members of the Zandronum community!

Today the final release date of the Mansion project has arrived, at last! Hopefully, the two years of development were worth it!

To encapsulate, the Mansion project, is a game that essentially recreates Ao Oni in 3D, allowing people to play the game in a new perspective of view. While additionally offering extra content that wasn't present in the original game. One should take note that a major difference between the original Ao Oni and this game are the chase sequences. While the original made use of a time mechanic, this game instead relies on luring the Oni to rooms. Almost each room and closet can be used at least once as a safespot from the Oni. If the player evades the Oni too quickly, chances are he will get stuck due to Doom's inferior A.I. Hopefully, this will not interrupt or prove a significant annoyance during regular gameplay.

It contains 10 playable classes, the Mansion map divided in two maps, and two other bonus levels. Which adds up to a total amount of 4 maps.

Surely, I would welcome constructive criticism and feedback, remember. I don't perceive this as the best Doom project myself either, so please rate it and leave a message behind to share your thoughts about this! Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention that a striking menu glitch occurs when playing this modification on Zandronum, this can make choosing a class quite difficult. Unfortunately, there is no solution for it at the moment, and I can therefore, only recommend you to play it on other ports, like GZDoom.

Not too significant in terms of gameplay I suppose. The classes' difference will be the most notable in the secret levels, but those aren't a part of the primary gameplay. Nonetheless, it's just a fun addition to the game. They differ in speed, weapon arsenal and... well... obviously character.

While I'm not really a fan of this type of game, I suppose it's worth the props towards the effort recreating it in the engine.

Also for the silly 'lolz' factor with G&W, and the other classes I give it:

My gratitude for your compliment. The development time was pretty long, and it's nice to see constructive reviews in contrary to the non-constructive ones.

It's pretty good. A bit weird at times due to AI limitations, but nothing that is actually too bad from what I've played through so far. I'd love to see some sort of recreation of one of the Ao Oni fangames like Siro Oni or Hakyo Oni.

Greetings, everyone! I am Teh Dark Lord Saytenn, here to clear up some technical issues that may occur for first-time GZDoom users.

First off, this game has been known to crash when using the most recent full release of GZDoom. If this issue occurs, simply download the latest developer version from the git repository.

Also, you must set the compatibility of the engine to "ZDoom" via the Options menu. If this game is played with default compatibility, you will be forced to have an eternal staring contest with the Oni at a certain point of the game.

I hope this helps.
