We are now live with a fully functioning Elo rankings system for duel on funcrusher. To take part, simply register your account if you haven't already here: http://auth.funcrusher.net/

Then, simply join the duel server "[NJ] FUNCRUSHER || DUEL32 Duel #1 (Ranked Preseason)", and login with your credentials (login username password in console).

After you've completed at least 10 ranked matches (both players must be logged in for it to be ranked), you will be able to view your elo score online and be ranked alongside others on the leaderboards.

To host, you need to use the following settings:

authhostname [bad site]:16666 //(or auth server of your choice)
databasefile databasename //(use any DB name you like)
set elo_logmatches 1 (if you want full match details to be logged)
set Elo_ServerID [number] (must be a unique number for each server if you're hosting multiple instances of Duel Elo)

Watermelon made a system for it, but he took it down, I think he was anticipating that once accounts and the database features were introduced into Zandronum a new system could be made that didn't require custom binaries.

After talking with one_two, who has experience playing chess and using the Elo ranking, I've initially gone for a starting Elo value of 1200, with a floor of 500 that you can't go below, with the k-factor a constant 16. Plus, you will not be ranked by your Elo until you've played at least ten games.

If anyone has some suggestions for better parameters though I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion because I'm really not sure at the moment.

That sounds very appropriate and fitting for a system like this. Good luck with it.

edit: note, while the Elo stats here are true, they were made when the wad wasn't recording frags or deaths in an earlier version, so the frag and death stats here are just made up.

That's pretty good looking. When can we expect it to take over all servers? :)

This and ctf stats are definately going to bring back the competitve scene somewhat (if it doesn't die in 2 weeks of course)

If you have seen what happened with water's ELO system, you'd know that private CTF will get a lot of attention after this system will be in place for CTF and it's optional too.

This version comes with a mandatory new cvar, Elo_ServerID. If the cluster owner wants multiple servers running ranked duel, he must give a unique ID (integer) to each server using set Elo_ServerID.

This new version also now records the map of each match if elo_logmatches is true. With match data logged, anyone can use this information to create their own ranking system, even per each map.

Also, the shoot map is no longer ranked.

That's awesome, if we could get stats storage from every other server it would be nice. The website is quite simplistic but I'm sure in the future it will eventually improve. Jenova's design of Zan++'s stats storage website was quite neat.

Shane has told me that some people disliked playing on the Elo server because an annoying message kept popping up in game asking people to log in if they weren't. I'd just like to let duelers know that in the latest version this message is no longer displayed to players while the game is in progress (but you may still be prompted in the start map or during the countdown), so people are free to play on the ranked servers without logging in (only matches where both players are logged in will be ranked) and without having to see that annoying message on their screen!
