One major tip i would suggest about mapping (that barely anyone uses), is aligning textures. Aligning textures in your map so they fit neatly on the walls gives your map more definition/tone. (maps with unaligned textures looks stupid and unrealistic.)

I would suggest having a look at this: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread. ... tid=740288

Essel has some great tips and tricks about not only aligning textures, but map geometry and neatness aswell.

Have a play around with aligning textures, then it will become second nature to you in no time! (which is a very good thing)

Edit:

But most importantly, just practice mapping in general.

It is a nice start for your first map. If you want any help you can just use this thread.

In case you´re going to make more maps, you might want to try out slade 3

The hell? Slade 3 isn't a map editor! (Slade 2 was I think).

Slade 3.1.0 is pretty much a map editor now. It's only suitable for vanilla-like maps though.

What i meant with slade is not custom monsters and all that advanced shit. I meand your own map name, music and of course, if you want, textures and custom sounds. But really, those wads are advanced as f*ck, you could try ripping stuff from my level, which is less advanced. I give you my permission ;)

NOTE: MAPINFO is the most major thing you might want to take a look at

http://static.[bad site]/wads/ze31finalv1.wad

Oh, if you are going to play it, you will need the zombie horde wads. But dont use testpack r_11, use r_10
