I was also wondering how to make weapons do more damage because I want this to be a little different from the original SSG. :V

Screenracer wrote: This is my first project so it may look like shit. Ill go through a quick walkthrough on how it was made, please give me feedback so I can make this look better.

Alright I just got SLADE3 and started viewing the doom 2 IWAD and looking around its files. Then stumbled on the SSG sprites so this idea came to mind.

Anyways, I exported the SSG sprites as a PNG image and edited them with photoshop. I added a overlay layer and painted the thing goldish yellow. After encountering many problems with the color and transparency I finally finished it.
Oh and if anyone can tell me how I can make this a different weapon instead of replacing the original SSG that would be appreciated.

Ok, I have two kinds of feedbacks to give to you. One sarcastic, one truthful. You'll decide which one is which.
It looks really bad, is this your first attempt at recoloring? It has a weird brightness increase or something to it as well.

Looks like my grandpa took a shit, saturated it and painted it to yellow and pasted it on his old hunting rifle and called it a masterpiece.
Thing is grey isn't exactly a friendly thing to recolors.. In doom format it happens to have a big portion in the color palette so palette swaps will remove a lot of detail..
Now in photoshop recoloring grey and black is more complex than overlays, you might want to read a lot of photoshop tutorials to get it right :P -Most of the other colors are recolored with overlay but not the case with grey since it'll look terrible at best-

Not quite, in your wad the offset of the second frame is exactly the same as the previous one, which shouldn't be, because the second frame is bigger, I'm sure you know

On the subject of recoloring, you could also grab the area you wish to recolor with the lasso tool, and then "Colorize" I think it's called, (Where you can change the Hue, Saturation and Lightness), at least it's what I do in GIMP, hope it helps...

why the blue shells tho? if you going to make the shells in the hud blue you might also want to add a sprite for the ammo pickup.
