Well, I know that Terminus intends to add something to Duke for Samsara .31....when he gets motivation again, that is.

Samsara .31 is on hold while the graphics guy, Mike12, gets the new gibs done.

Unfortunately, Mike12 is pretty busy with all the other mods he's working on at the moment, so you get this massive delay.

Actually, I was on IRC.

While -jes- has a small point; the real reason that there's this massive delay is, well, very discouraging.

Terminus pretty much said to the IRC that the codebase is pretty much a disaster. While I'm perfectly fine with said disaster (remember, this is the guy who did samsara stronghold, I really could tell you about that someday, if you have a couple hours, heh), the guy(s) who coded it happened to be less cool with it.

And (un)surprisingly, the 9th hero would make this hacked-together codebase even hackier.

So yeah, he wants to totally recode this thing.

Is it possible? I honestly believe he should code the 9th hero in first, then worry about fixing the codebase again, but that's just me; When I decide to do something, I will not stop until it is done; every other issue in that code base be damned (I have a bit of a bloody-mindedness reflex, to say the least). It's the only reason Samsara/Stronghold kept going; if I cared about trying to fix everything, SamsaraHold would've never gotten out of the alpha stage.

Let me rephrase that: He feels like he needs to recode this thing, something about codebase being unfriendly to modders and I dunno I've been mostly fine with it aside from having to routinely ask "how does this work dammit"

No one with any sense of sanity actually wants to do so.

Untitled, please notice how the DEVELOPER OF SAMSARA IS INFORMING YOU THAT HE HAS NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE ON ABOUT!

The Samsara codebase is cracking apart, yes.
But so do all codebases as the project in question expands to do different and new things. As projects go, and engine constraints considered, Samsara is still holding up pretty well.

Recoding it would be completely and utterly futile at this point. I did it the first time around because it had absolutely no scalability and was lacking very important features like actual CVars (and, to be honest, I was bored). The code can handle a ninth hero.

It's confusing, yes. It could be better, yes. But it's nowhere near bad enough to need a recode.

Well then.

Then what the hell is actually causing the delay?

Because it's not lack of interest. It really can't be.

And you just said that it's not needing to be recoded ground up.

And you added both SO and Ranger, after many many difficulties, so sheer lack of effort can't be it.

So what?

Can't speak for Term, but that's basically it. He's been doing all donutsteel, donutsteel, donutsteel for the past couple months, and I've been banging my head on the GECK. There's just no inspiration for Samsara right now.

for the record, it's the same with other mods, like metrood and dakka[/size]

I've made a small addon for Samsara for people who are interested. It changes Duke's on-demand taunts to be less singing and more actual taunts.

There is still the bug where you can pick up and hold every hero's instagib weapon acquired from IDKFA/IDFA or picking it up.
