This actually looks like it would be really annoying.

I hate poops that rely on the Mario head/Hotel Mario/CD-I Zelda jokes/Pingas/all that because it takes no effort and it's so overdone it's not funny.

  • The texture usage is just plain bad and there's no consistency. You can't just mix random STARTANx, SHAWNx, FLATxx, and METALxx textures and expect it to look harmonious. My suggestion is to have a general texture "theme" in mind before you start mapping and adhere to it with moderate strictness. Deviations are fine (and in fact, are welcomed), as long as their placement is thoughtful. Basically, refrain from picking random textures. I can tell that's what you did.
  • You should learn how to set textures to "upper unpegged". It's not hard. It's the "U" key, if you're using DB2's 3D mode. Also, whatever custom "nukage" texture that is looks like green spaghetti.
  • The HUD bar is a total eyesore. Nothing is aligned, words and numbers overlap the edges, and the health/ammo/armor numbers are too small. Also, what is that thing in the middle, where the Doomguy's face would be?
  • There are tons of artifacts on the Mario sprites.
  • I don't know what kind of weapon that is, but it appears to be an energy/cell-type weapon. Whatever it is, that green ring around the "muzzle" looks really really bad.
The hexagonal cutouts in the ceiling are the only positive thing I can see in that screenshot. So good call on that, I guess.


So there. That's my constructive criticism for you.

I enjoy this WAD a bit myself, the levels have pretty good architecture. Only thing is characters could stand rebalancing. Oh and the "Demon" dinosaurs need more sprites.

Now you probably feel a bit threatened by all that, but rest assured it's nothing personal. All modders including myself have gone through the same sort of thing, and for the most part it helps us make our projects better or inspires us to create something new and exciting. You might as well get used to it if you plan on continuing this mod.

My advice would be to change the name 'Youtube Poop Doom Adventure', seeing as you said you're removing all the YTP stuff, and take this mod in a completely different direction. ASAP. Or, another option, turn it into some sort of jokewad with some actual comedy that isn't lame. Otherwise this wad's future looks grim at best...

Hopefully you use this project as a learning experience to get better at doom modding, then create something that everyone can appreciate. I know for a fact that a huge chunk of doom players don't like the clash between grungy doom textures & graphics and bright colorful cartoon characters. Maybe it was cool in 1997, but now in 2012 it just looks... Degrading.

Apologies for being so harsh, but it needed to be said that way. Maybe there's still potential for this mod to achieve something greater if you do something drastic. Best of luck to you and your project, and I hope you're enjoying the holidays. Merry Christmas & Cheers for the new year.

To be fair, I didn't see all of the maps, so I could be wrong about some of them. Though from what I did see, some are lacking details, and like Aenima said, some don't have the greatest texture usage. Check out the maps in Crucified Dreams, they are raw eye candy and have great consistency of theme. Maybe they'll give you some ideas or inspiration.

And yes, the sprites mainly are what made it seem that bad. Sorry to dampen your day.

I'm sure if you put that effort into making this into a respectable & original mod, the response will be a hell of a lot better. I personally am looking forward to see what you're capable of. Don't give up on account of my ranting ass, show me up instead. :biggrin:

If you are talking about the maps you've seen in the trailer then I'll understand.

Becuase we needed to have alot of gameplay video's....

Since map01,02,03 are the only yet good looking maps... We had to user prototype maps. So we didn't spoil too much of the demo.

I don't particularly mind the "poop" like some people do (in fact I used to watch it all the time), and the WAD isn't all bad, but like others say there is room for improvement regardless. AEnima says maps need to be more consistent and there's too much random texturing. I said before that the characters need to be rebalanced; make the starter guns work off their appropriate ammo types, give each weapon a use against some monster (the SG could be good to just take small groups out shell by shell, SSG could be saved for big baddies, and the Dinner Blaster could cause large hordes or particularly big foes to drop from cholesterol-induced heart attacks).

Well... The weapon thing can might be a problem.

We have 7 classes (Including 2 very unfinished classes which will be developed later.)

We can only have the Supershotgun,Shotgun As a pickup weapon. Since those are the only common weapons that all classes can wear. But If you spawn a Dinnerblaster in map01. Other classes can pick it up too! And how stupid does it look to see Sonic the hedgehog with a Dinnerblaster?

I know there are script tricks to make classes pickup only the weapons placed in their decorate. But I'm a really bad scripter you know! And some lumps have limits. One time I tryd doing the lump into the class decorates. And the wad only worked with zdoom and gzdoom. (That's not what I want) We are gonna aim the wad 95% at multiplayer. In the hope that on 1 september 2013 (Release date) People will play it online on skulltag and zandronum.

Our mod is currently in replace/remake development. Or with other words. The things that you call ''bad'' Sprites,RandomTextures,Badmaps ??? ,BadHUD. Are outdated stuff from more than 2 years ago.

And the enemy sprites?

I'm talkin about luigi,Tyranosaurus alan,Mario,Link,Theking,Gwonam.

They are made by my friend more than 2 years ago. (Don't say this to him. But his spriting skills are still not really good!)

If you watch sprites in xwe. then you will see difference. In this prototype demo a very few sprites are already remaked! For example : Look at luigi's sprites. The death animation and the front sprites are remaked. But sprites from the other rotations are still those crappy 2 and half year old sprites!

Honestly I find a lot wrong with this project as far as both ytp and doom sides go (coming from someone that made ytps).

1. I've only played a few maps, but already i'm kinda dissapointed considering this is a 2 year old project. Most of the maps seem to lack detail compared to other somewhat successful wads and just seem too easy. I mean really 65 monsters on map15? That's just too small of a number.
2. As far as textures go, some custom ones look good, some are okay, and some are just downright bad. I know you're trying to go for ytp style, but if you're NOT going to make this a jokewad (which in it of itself is stupid because ytp doom as a serious game sounds hypocritical) then please don't make textures all fruity and "funny". For example, the hynuke texture replacement looks hideous.
3. Monsters seem to try and be creative but just downright lame to play against. If your going to include ytp elements into the wad, dont piss both most of the doom and ytp community off by replacing monsters with cdi and sonic characters. It's lame and just unfunny as both sources have just been used to the point of suicide upon seeing them. Also, some monsters have original doom sprites which i recommend fixing.
4. 6 classes? REALLY? I doubt people are going to attempt to use 3 of them, let alone 7. Try and do characters that people might actually have fun playing instead of just MABOIsonic stuff that just looks kinda stupid.
5. Weapons seem poorly made visually and some are just ugh. Its pretty sad and boring knowing that i can beat the 15 maps on here with ONLY the king's starting weapons. Make it more balanced please.

Now comes my personal advice:
1. For the love of god don't use XWE. The only good thing it's at is changing pixel colors on sprites while in the wad/pk3. Otherwise, XWE just corrupts wads a lot, only loads certain files and looks like it was just thrown together in a few days. Get either SlumpEd or Slad3 as they are at least more stable and offer a bit more freedom than XWE.
2. If you're not going to act mature on the Zand forums, you may as well just leave. Practically everyone here on the forums are for the most part mature, and calling people names for no particular reason just makes you look bad.
3. If you use mspaint or xwe (and I hope you don't), get either Photoshop or GIMP. They're decent for making custom sprites.
4. Making some friends on here is probably the best thing to do here on the forums. Some are good mappers, some are good spriters, and some are just.....GOOD. It can speed up your wad's process and you can take some personal advice from them where needed.

Before I'm gonna complain to this I first wanna say this : I DONT USE XWE THE BMP SPRITES GETTING BLACK/WHITE IN SLUMPED!!! MY FRIEND USED XWE 2 YEARS AGO!!! FOR EDITING I USE SLUMPED AND SLADE!!!! I NOT THAT KIND OF SUCKER!!!! XWE SUCKS!!!

Now I'm going to start complaining to this. Map15 ??? ? There is no map15 yet!!!

I don't use Mspaint... It sucks.... I use paint.net....

The textures ??? 75% or with other words. The GOOD textures are the textures I made. Those shitty ones are from my friend who made them 2 years ago.

I'm not gonna fix those old sprites. My friend made those fucking screwed up shit sprites.... I'm gonna replace them with something not YTP related.

And last of all. Becuase you all won't listen.... The ''BAD'' things you are all talking about is made by my friend 2 years ago. The ''GOOD'' thing I made are made by me minimum 4 months ago.

There's very less of my stuff into this demo becuase 80% of the enemies of the game are removed to avoid spoil.

The enemy's I made are only in the official development version. Most of the enemy's I made appear after map07... And in the demo.. There is almost only remaining shit of my friend!!!

Why blame me? for the shit he made!

They where both awful. But you can see difference in style!

My wad stopped developing already in may 2012... It was becuase it was corrupted by Slumped... (I don't remember how) So about 2 months later. I decided to help developing him with his mod.

As you can see in his first wad... What do you see? AHAH! The sprites in that wad are STILL!!!! being used! And I should be taken as a king since I'm be able to make something of this! That crappy older youtube poop doom. Is the wad from what I made in the new video! Youtube poop doom adventure is based on that shitty old wad that my friend made!

Do you realize.... How hard it is... To make ''SOMETHING'''of what my friend made?

Worst of all? He can do way better than that now.... But he's too lazy doing it!!!! 6 Month's ago I started developing this mod! And he was doing less and less....

All he keeps himself busy of? Is source filmmaker. He left the wad all alone for me to develop.... Nobody else.... Just me.... He calls himself the ''Creator'' of youtube poop doom.... But I'm doing all the hard and good stuff.

I think I should be more appericiated with all the effort I done to it in 6 months.

Oh and BTW my friend's youtube username is cacodemontube. He's the one that maked the youtube poop doom adventure trailer.

What I'm just trying to do.... Is make something good of it... and that's just extremely difficult you know :(

4. 6 classes? REALLY? I doubt people are going to attempt to use 3 of them, let alone 7. Try and do characters that people might actually have fun playing instead of just MABOIsonic stuff that just looks kinda stupid.
5. Weapons seem poorly made visually and some are just ugh. Its pretty sad and boring knowing that i can beat the 15 maps on here with ONLY the king's starting weapons. Make it more balanced please.

Now comes my personal advice:
1. For the love of god don't use XWE. The only good thing it's at is changing pixel colors on sprites while in the wad/pk3. Otherwise, XWE just corrupts wads a lot, only loads certain files and looks like it was just thrown together in a few days. Get either SlumpEd or Slad3 as they are at least more stable and offer a bit more freedom than XWE.
2. If you're not going to act mature on the Zand forums, you may as well just leave. Practically everyone here on the forums are for the most part mature, and calling people names for no particular reason just makes you look bad.
3. If you use mspaint or xwe (and I hope you don't), get either Photoshop or GIMP. They're decent for making custom sprites.
4. Making some friends on here is probably the best thing to do here on the forums. Some are good mappers, some are good spriters, and some are just.....GOOD. It can speed up your wad's process and you can take some personal advice from them where needed.
And... I wanna make friends.... But I don't know how! It's difficult. And no matter which site it is : Wikia,Doomforums,Youtube

People are always doing harsh against me. In my whole Time I'm using internet. (3 years) I've met like only 21 people from the 200 who did nice against me.

I'm always trying to be nice against others.... But I think I have an rage problem. Or my life just sucks. (That's what much trolls said against me on youtube)

And about the wad helping thing? I've seen somebody doing it on the zdoom forums. I was an extremely bad wad. But that doesn't count.

People answered things like : Why? are you going to pay us for it? or. Why should I help you with this piece of shit?

And If I'm going to request that.... I'm afraid that's gonna happen too....
