After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, it's time to clean house. Before a Duel48 comes out, the fat must be trimmed from Duel32.

REMOVED
- Brit11 MAP02
- Fae_Duel
- GothicDM MAP02
- Sipooma
- Styx8
- Titmilk
- Xfire5
- The Secret Map

ADDED
+ Class219 MAP01
+ EonDM1E MAP05
+ Exec MAP03
+ Exposed
+ Eyedea
+ Styxdm01 MAP02
+ Tedp MAP01
+ Another secret map

Coming soon (as in tonight or tomorrow night...)

Nice too see Exposed back. Yeti's sick at duel map making. Also, good too see Sipooma finally removed I didn't like that one much.

Because it is terrible and basically a mock/joke map.

Ask yourself, what does s.i.p.o.o.m.a. stand for?

Even though some of the removed maps might be liked by some (including a few for me), they overall weren't highly played and weren't the gleaming light of this wad. It will be better to get new maps in and wash out the overall least anyway.

Duel32d was released with the promised map changes, so I guess you can complain about how terrible the new maps are now.

Duel32d was about map updates. I would like to release a duel32e that actually has a few more features, something I have not done in quite a few releases.

- An option to force ammo respawn on for bfgd5m1 and off for other maps.
- New text colors for chat and nickname use.
- A place to put server advertisements in the start map. (maybe...)

However, something big that I want to run by you guys is new Random functionality. Instead of Random immediately taking you to a map, I would like for Random to take you to a separate selection area that has precisely two portals. One portal would show a randomly selected map, and if both players are okay with the map they can run into it to start playing on it. The other portal would be a "Blind Pick" or "Veto" option, if either player runs into this portal another random map is selected and this time you're actually stuck with it.

The idea is meant to be analogous to Halo 3's matchmaking 'veto' system, and I think it might increase the popularity of random pick even more, since players have the assurance that if random gives them a map they don't like, they have a second chance. Allowing players a choice between two random maps is a less attractive alternative, since there is a potential for 'standoffs' like the kind that can happen in the main selection room.

What do you guys think of the idea?

- Only bfgd5m1 seems to need it
- As long as the colors aren't tacky, it would be a neat expansion
- Good for modding commerce but eventually there'd be abuse/pollution. The folks that host the wad are usually well adjusted, but is the effort worth the experiment?
-A little more control over random would be good. The system should play out fine and provide more incentive on flexibility.

I've always hoped each lobby quadrant would have it's own random option. :v:

Want the python script that compiles my stats? Here you go:

http://files.funcrusherplus.net/static/duel32.py

Edit the config bits at the top of the script to suit your needs, then run the script, passing paths to logfiles you wish to examine. Duel32a had a known bug where brit11 map01 was labeled incorrectly as map02, so if you publish logs from that time, be sure to change the name around.

Duel32e is being worked on:
Spoiler: A new START map (Open)
Something old, something new. This layout is more compact than the old one, and I think looks more vibrant to boot. The hanging doors are placeholders for textures that allow server operators to place logos inside them.

Spoiler: The Random Dimension (Open)
Still trying to figure out what a proper layout might be for the play/skip interface, but it's a start...
Image
Spoiler: The Random Dimension 2 (Open)
EDIT: Trying another layout...

wait, so you remove SIPOOMA but not foxtrot? What sense does this make? SIPOOMA was played more than twice as much and played almost as much as some of the "standard" 1v1 maps. Even that piece of shit exodus got less plays than SIPOOMA.

The textures look good

Also would like something similar for the IDL wad if possible. The one they use GV is okay, but think it would would look better if they placed the maps in the map order, rather than the wad order. Not sure if there was any plans to do this though.

Code: Select all

whoa whoa WHOA
alex already removed my favorite map, you aren't getting him to remove foxtrot as well; you can bag on another map that's rarely played
Edit: Sipooma was crap anyways, and xfire5 had more played than foxtrot so it sucks thats it is removed but w/e

Nothing wrong with exodus.
