Just played map02 on iddqd1.wad, I think that would be well suited for Duel.

I couldn't disagree more :P

There's nothing really special about the layout really, it's a very boxy, straightforward map. There are maps in Duel32 that do what it does better.

I dunno I think there's a certain amount of skill in placement and area control - like a quake map. But yeah maybe a bit more round the sides would make it less boxy.

Hmm... Out of curiosity, how will you be choosing which maps will be added from the suggestions for Duel40?

I still think SSL or SSL4 could be good additions, although SSL4 would require fixing as the player can get stuck in the Plasma Gun lift; That, and it feels like the map was incomplete for some reason...

XENOSX9 MAP08 also looks like it could be a fun map, but would require some testing.

Also, Dwango5 MAP02 seems to be Danzig1 MAP11 with different music.

All wads mentioned can be found here:

Lots of back and forth discussion. A map that gets mentioned by multiple people who aren't best buds is more likely to make it in.

I don't remember SSL or SSL4 being that special.

Already in.
Also, Dwango5 MAP02 seems to be Danzig1 MAP11 with different music.
I've never really known if D5M2 was worth adding. ZDDL has it, but players don't really seem to like it in my experience.

D5M6 is better, if it's the one I'm thinking of (gray circle with 4 starting pillars)

REMOVE

I don't see why this one is so unpopular. Maybe because it takes a while to play? That's the only thing I see wrong with it.
ADD

Awesome, I missed it :)

Apologies to people who have been waiting on an update. Real life has been kind of a bear recently, and this project has been one of the further things from my mind. Rest assured that I haven't forgotten about it, and I will release a new version soonish.

Post by AlexMax » Thu Feb 07, 2013 12:02 am

Duel32b has been released. I wanted the Duel40 start map, map list and desired feature set to have a little more time rolling around in the ol' noggin' before releasing it, so I decided to do a point release that simply switched out some maps and more importantly got rid of the dependency on skulltag_data.pk3.

REMOVED
  • 32in24 10 MAP26
  • Aurora
  • UDM3 MAP03
  • UDMX MAP02
UPDATED
  • FaeDuel13 MAP01 (was Fae_Duel11 MAP01)
ADDED
  • Exodus1on1 (updated with a switch animation fix over the version in earlier Duel32 releases)
  • Foxtrot (updated to the titan_mega2012 version)
  • GothicDM MAP02
  • Titmilk

I have been tooling away at Duel40 this weekend, getting the START map in better shape. I've also been pondering the list of potential maps to add from a few weeks ago and have trimmed it down to a few maps that will definitely make it in.

DEFINITE ADD
- Exec MAP03
- Exposed
- Greenwar MAP16
- Greenwar MAP28
- Hipafrag

I'll modify this post as I finalize more of the maplist. I know that the candidate selection process can seem kind of arbitrary at times, so here are some ideas of the things I balance when I am evaluating maps:

- Maps that were used for 1on1 gameplay in the past. This could be as far back as the BBS days, or as recent as an IDL Duel Pickup Tournament.
- Maps that good duelers can vouch for. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean Zandronum duelers...Odamex and ZDaemon duelers have advised map selections in the past.
- Maps that use the Hexen map format, ACS features, and other ZDoom-isms are discouraged.

You probably used Skulltag textures there.

I'm just wondering (and in no offensive way possible) if people did vouch for the addition of the Gothic map in the most recent release, and if so, then who. I haven't seen it played much, but when I do, it seems very, very cramped, and almost maze-like. Granted, it's probably just my personal opinion, but I'd still like to know.
