I smoothed the lines out a bit more and I got rid of QEffectGL.dll's emboss filter because I was told it was making the textures look weird.

I kinda liked the emboss. gave it a little more depth

Iunno, somebody over at ZDoom complained about it looking funny. :p


By the way, I just realized that this method is doom2.exe-compatible. Since technically, all we're doing here is stacking textures.

yup. i figured that out too. this is a wonderful effect.

Wow, that's cool! I think RabbitLord was working on a Metroid Prime mod. You might wanna talk to him about collaborating, since IIRC, he already had a lot of work done so far (in terms of DECORATE and mapping).


Also, regarding the "bumpmapping" business ... Nash over at ZDoom notified me that we're apperantly not the first to attempt this method. Phi108 experimented with it two years ago. http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f= ... re#p531797

had no idea. but for for beating me to it.

and damn it. really wanted to make a metroid mod.

starting to think every idea i have has already been though of by other people.

There's a good chance that it probably has.

The trick is to tell yourself, instead of "no use making this, it's already been done before", say "well, it may have been done before, but I want to do it better and/or more efficiently".

I'm not going to abandon the image export.

If I wanted to make this a 3d with eyecandy and hq samus models, I would have chosen to make a half life 2 mod.

one of the points in this mod is that it be based of super metroid. with the first person element of metroid prime.

Knowing my streak of luck someones already thought of this. Has anyone thought about a mod that has a adjacent story line , or maybe a prequel, to Doom 2 that is about the people of earth defending themselves from the invading demons.

I have ideas for the story but I need to complete them and write them down so I don't forget them. Also, the weapons they use would be like guns you would find in a normal home or the streets like AR-15s, Sawed Off shotguns, Over/Unders, 30-30s(if that is the right name, and for those of you who don't know that is a lever action rifle that spits out some serious damaging rounds. I'm hoping I got that right), 30ott6s (a hunting rifle), Glocks, M1911s, Petro bombs / Molotovs, maybe some military weapons if the main protagonist gets into a military depot like M4s, frags, LMGs. One of the gameplay ideas I had is that since it is the end of the world ammo would be scarce making it feel more like a survival horror.

Also, if need be I could get me and a couple of my friends to do some voice acting :V

This sounds a good story. I've been searching everywhere for something like a Doom 2 prequel. I would love it if someone makes a mod like that

I had an idea like that a while back. Like, where you play as a police sergeant and you have to defend your wife and kids from the hellish invasion of earth. I started work on a map but lost it.

yeah I kinda figured someone had that idea because I couldn't have been the only one to think "wait...where the hell is everybody?". I got the idea after playing Doom2 when I saw the trailer for Red Dawn and I thought back to the old one, the one from the 70s and it just clicked.

my story Idea Ænima was more towards like a late teen early 20s guy and he would eventually cross paths with Doom Guy (which would make perfect sense for co-op) and maybe even Duke Nukem and the main guy dies just where the shotgun is in the first level where the 2 imps are (depending which difficulty you play on) and thats where Doom 2 would pick up.

A WW1 trench warfare game similar to the Battlefield 1942 mod Battlefield 1917, but with its Demonic twist similar to say Necrovision. I think it would work with it being similar to killing my half german side but not nazis and yet fighting Hellspawn.
