New off-topic sub-forum: Forum Games section

#1

Post by infurnus » Fri Feb 22, 2013 9:42 pm

Due to popular demand: Forum Games, in the Off-topic subforum.

This section is for any interactive games played on the forums.
Posts in this section are not counted towards total post count.
You are allowed to post in older threads, just make sure you actually contribute to them instead of making a useless comment like "lol bump!1".
The regular forum rules still apply.

It can be reached here: http://zandronum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=66

Post count isn't anything really :/

Also from looking in forum games, you have a funny definition of games. Post your age? Should be like, "forum mongo's" or something.

I just sorted by threads with the most total views/posts and quickly picked through there, I can fix that

Why not call it Forums Game & Social. It makes more sense, right?

It does sometimes.

Whether you have 82 insightful posts or 4064 unnecessary ones, postcount still shows your overall activity. With the karma system gone, the only thing that newbies can judge by (besides actually spending time getting to know the community) is a quick glance at one's postcount.

This is a good idea though, many people post these dumb things to jack up their post count. It is a strange phenomenon that people actually think their post count means something.
In hindsight it does... It's more simple to slap a new word and create a new meaning than moving threads back around.

Also I don't do these things for the post count, I do it because I find it to be interesting to do.

Are you saying that one have the credibility of the size of his post count...?

If so, I have basically zero so why post here, right?

Who cares about post count? People would take a 10 yr doom veteran more seriously than some newfag with 750 posts.

Ehh I always thought you can know who is more active by clicking their name and see how much they remained online.. beside there is no reason to reply to every topic on forum anyway.

Edit : Would be a bit helpful to have a rating displayed on one's page corresponding to their warning level.. obviously with opt-out allowed

Or maybe just have post count on someones profile page, like time spent online.

Cool, now can we have an option to ignore the entire subforum? I'd rather see somewhat interesting things in the "newest thread" box.

I -could- try to make it opt-in, since user-side "ignoring" a forum doesn't seem to be an easy thing to do, but that would probably spawn all kinds of other problems that could otherwise be easily avoided.

The sub-forum hasn't been getting a flood of threads, so the activity there is pretty much the same as Off-topic was before. All the threads in the new sub-forum were previously in Off-topic, moved there either by myself or other moderators, so things are really not too different from before.

Any feedback is still appreciated, though.
