Format
The tournament follows a double-elimination system, which means that teams remain active in the tournament until they lose 2 games. Here are a few examples: Teams
The tournament utilizes a snake draft system, where captains pick players out of the free agency pool to fill their teams' rosters. The captain who picks first in the 1st round picks last in the 2nd round, and so on. Teams only have 3 spots, so captains must pick only two players to fulfill their roster. The captains will be selected by hand out of the players who signed up, to ensure that more skilled, reliable and smart players are given the opportunity to lead their teams. The draft will take place on IRC (@ #ctft), and captains must announce their picks through there.

The amount of teams that will participate in the tournament is directly proportional to the amount of sign-ups and, more importantly, the amount of players who actually attend to the event. A minimum milestone of 4 teams must be achieved though. There is no rule against odd amounts, so it is possible to have 5 or 7 participating teams.

Maps
The map pool for the tournament is comprised of 5 maps, all of which come from idl2014a.wad.
  • MAP06 (SmartCTF MAP01)
  • MAP08 (ZDCTF MAP08)
  • MAP17 (32in24-4 MAP17)
  • MAP20 (ZDECTF2 MAP01)
  • MAP24 (RageCTF MAP20)
Games
Each round has a duration of 5 minutes and a score limit of 3 flags. Sudden death is disabled for the first 2 rounds, but is otherwise enabled in the 3rd round.

Each game follows a Best of 2 system, meaning that if a team has the upper hand after 2 rounds, that team wins the game and advances on the brackets. The team that is placed higher in the brackets picks the 1st map out of the pool, while the lower team picks the 2nd map. A game ends in 2 rounds if:
  • a team wins two consecutive rounds;
  • a team wins a round and ties another.
Otherwise, a 3rd round will be played with sudden death enabled. The team that is placed lower in the brackets removes one of the 3 remaining maps from play, then the higher team does the same. The last remaining map is then played. This happens if:
  • a team wins a round but loses another;
  • both teams tie two consecutive rounds.
Rules
  • Trading players between two teams is not allowed.
  • Trading players between a team and the free agency, on the other hand, is allowed, but can only be done once.
  • If a team is unable to show themselves when their next game comes up, it will automatically count as a loss for them, which means they will either be sent to the loser's bracket or defeated altogether, depending on their placement.
Schedule
Sign-up period: Sunday, October 19th to Friday, October 24th @ 11:59 PM EDT.
Event date: Saturday, October 25th.

7:45 PM EDT - Draft starts on IRC at #ctft. All participants must make themselves available before then.
8:00 PM EDT - Draft ends, and the 1st game starts.
9:45/10:15/10:45 PM EDT - Deadline for the tournament's end if it has 4/5/6 teams, respectively.

Server
The games will happen in a Funcrusher+ (New Jersey) server hosted exclusively for the event.

The brackets for the tournament will be regularly updated at http://challonge.com/tendency0 as games are played. I'm also trying to get a non-player to livestream the games, but nothing is certain yet. If there is a confirmed streamer, I'll update this section of the OP.

The IRC channel where all things related to the tourney will be discussed, and where the draft will take place is #ctft at Zandronum IRC.

Unfinished, unrefined? It worked really well in the WDL despite a small window bug that doesn't even happen in the IDL wad. If something provides good gameplay without breaking anything, it should be an eligible map for tournaments of any kind, no matter what their authors feel about it.

You're better off using the version in Rage RC1. It has much more refined spawn locations that improve the overall flow of the map without changing the core elements.

Yo I hear a lot of bitching, if it is IDL wad it should be eligible for a tournament don't you think? If not then IDL wads need to stop being hosted on our CTF servers. Now shut up and play.

In that case, could you make me a patch wad that adds the new version of the map onto the IDL wad? Hopefully that isn't too hard to do.
I could do that, but it probably wouldn't be ready until Friday or Saturday or so because of other things I have to attend to. The updated map has some textures not inside the 2014a wad, but making a patch is the most likely option.

I have brought a server up for this tournament. It is located at funcrusher.net port 10625, with the correct timelimit and scorelimit. Password is the same as the scrim server.
