Zandronum

Every day there are scrimmages. Once in a blue moon there are wars. What if we were to take all the current clans and throw them onto the battlefield where the stakes are everything? You start out with only a name and the option to earn respect. What if you were the clan that won the 2013 Zandronum Clan Wars?

I would like to organize a tournament that we could do this. Where the players of all the Zandronum clans could compete to show their skills. We know there will be favorites but what about upset possibilities? I invite you to look into the possibilities. I implore you to think of the unthinkable... what if a Zandronum tournament were to happen and actually finish and the results were so pleasing people wanted it to happen again? That will never happen without YOU, the players, so I need your thoughts. This is not happening unless I get enough support / clans / ideas / opinions / admins / players.

What about the clan-less? Cheer for something that can draw people to our port. Maybe next time you will find yourself fighting on a clan. Or maybe you just like to place your predictions and watch under dogs squirm, favorites bleed, or miracles happen.

The Idea:

• A two league tournament with a NL/GV and a NJ/BE side
• A minimum of 4 clans per league, where each clan is allowed to play in one or both leagues
• A maximum of 5 players per clan per league.
• A player can play in one or both leagues.
• Each match will be 3 v 3.
• Possible All Stars match of NL/GV champ vs NJ/BE champ, given that one clan doesn't win both titles.

The Matches:

• Matches will be best two out of three with draws only allowed during Swiss format.
• Each league starts with each clan playing each other in Swiss format.
• Once all clans have played each other than seeds are formed.
• Seeds 1-4 advance to playoffs automatically
• Playoffs will be elimination style with Seed 1 playing Seed 4 and Seed 2 playing Seed 3. Then Seed (1,4) plays Seed (2,3) for championship.

What now?

I need your opinions/ideas/thoughts/rage quits/threats for this to happen. I need support and I need staff. I need admins for both sides, I need YOU guys for this to happen.

Won't happen, too complicated and no one is dedicated, unfortunately.

Yes clans like those that are out there right now. Examples: SK, PRO, EL, S, U, A3, TM, LF, R, etc.

It sounds like it's going to be a clan based version of IDL.
Which does sound like fun, and I'm sure PRO would participate in this.

That makes 3 interested clans that all have members who could play in both leagues if interested! It is already within the realm of possibility.

I think my confusion was because you misspelt then? But yeah swiss tournaments are good, I've played them in chess before :3

It's an unfortunate inevitability inherit to the nature of this community. It won't be long before R catches wind of this, kills the competition by mollywhomping everyone and ruins the entire thing. Not only that, but if previous Skulltag CTF leagues are any indication *ahem*, chances are this will make it maybe half-way before people start losing interest, missing games and eventually the whole thing is in ruins. I don't want to see a SICL II, but I fear it might happen with this.

If you want this to work, you'll have to put some serious planning into it. Poor planning, employing a weak set of rules/standards and being understaffed (you will want a few volunteers) will result in very little cohesion between the players and the league, and ultimately cause the destruction of the universe. Don't do that.

I find it sad how almost everyone has said the same thing to me; "R will beat the shit out of everybody". These are players in good clans that have no faith in their own abilities, or teammates. As long as you players feel that way you will not have a chance at beating a clan like R. By the way R was 2nd clan I invited to the tournament concept. I hope they do play, given we gather enough support and players for this event, and I look forward to every match against them.

As for Decay, yes, the way I see it happening is the 5 maximum players per clan will be set players. As soon as a clan signs up they will pick their lineup. 3 out of the 5 players will be starters. The 4 and 5 will be bench players. This will not be changeable without administration approval.

I think the reason they have no faith is because when they play every day, they still get stomped by R even when the R players haven't played for weeks or months on end and can come play in a completely non-oiled up state and just demolish anyways.
People could give R a run for their money, but sadly no one on this port is truly serious about doing so.


Also I HIGHLY recommend you set the rules straight with euro clans when it comes to game time. Obviously there are many more american clans than euro clans, last time I ran a tournament, it was very difficult to schedule their time zones in. If you cater too much to them and make it too early, most American players will not be up to play and thus hurt the league very much. That's just my experience since last time I checked most EL members (but not all) are not willing to stay up too late for CTF due to lack of interest in the game.

Clans don't really associate by country though, S states Euro and non euro players which is good. I'd say it's about 50-50

EL has employed non-Euro players though, since they had Aerial, Spider, and Mere at different points and all but Spider out of that were American (Spider being South American)

Just to clarify. This tournament is like two tournaments in one. There is an American side and a European side. While a player is allowed to play on both I do not recommend it because times for games and matches will not be adjusted for that player. There will be different admins for each league. So there will be two league champions, a European champ and an American champ. The All Stars match will be after the tournament for the league champions to face off.
