You're right capo, here's what I propose:capodecima wrote:Best way how raise competitive level is make some weekly but rather monthly events. Where you could run a lot different tournaments. Example CTF 2vs2, Railgun tournaments 1vs1, TDM tournaments etc. For this could be done easy page. Where you only quick put your email and name and you got always email beforehand than tournaments start. So you decide. If you want play or no. I am not the master of web programing. But i think for this could easy used some wordpress plugin or so.This idea was stolen from game Sauerbraten, which i play time to time and is there probably same amount of players like on zandronum.
My idea derives off of what Rustking did on Odamex when it's community was quaint and a lot of duelers thrived off small challenges. This tournament isn't designed to be massive or expand over a long period of time, it's to be quick, efficient, and swift satisfaction at the same time.
It goes like this, every week (on the weekend preferably, either Saturday or Sunday) I or someone else picks one map well known or obscure map then sits in the server to wait for players. Theres no thread sign ups for this, so players just join the server, and they let a member know they want to participate and then their name goes down in a list which is formed into 8 brackets allowing for 16 players. The brackets work as loser disqualified, winner advances to next round, and within an hour or two the tourney will be over and a winner is declared. Simple, quick and no need to schedule game times.
Winners have their name placed on a thread in the forum, and for however many times they win, we keep tabs on their victories in a op. This gives satisfaction for getting a win, and a rudimentary ranking system thats so easy to understand.
I also wish to invoke 2 tournaments on the same day at separate times, on FNF fashion for Europeans and Western Hemisphere players. However neither of these tournaments will be discriminate, meaning if a European wants to compete against American players, they may do so to their own discretion for a shot at showing they are capable of besting players on their own turf.
So what do you guys think? This would certainly be a lot better than setting up tournaments that are taking way too long to complete, and it allows for more newer players to get recognized in a publicity style manner. All I (well not really I, if anyone who wants to take this opportunity for themselves) need is a team to systematically present ideas for maps to be used in the upcoming tournament. I'm not sure whether or not to have 2 separate maps for both tournaments or keep it the same, more on that later.
