competitive clan suggestion
It appears that rule #1 under general posting seems to stifle competition and the general sense of what made clan wars and rivalries so great in the past. My suggestion is that rule gets removed. Are competitive clans going to get their feelings hurt over anything other than nice talk in their topics

RE: competitive clan suggestion
Yeah, you're right about that, Deeds.
And may I throw in another suggestion? "Alice" should stop pretending to be female just so the impressionable kiddie player-base would listen to "its" dumbass rules heh

RE: competitive clan suggestion
I agree. Trash talk, mild taunts or bragging is what got players really involved in their clan matches. Clan wars on ZD were played to show who was the best and the exchanges between clans was rather intense. For about a year or so, there was this era of 'good, respectable play'. However, that didn't last long and it gave way to the ancient ways. As long as there is a fine line established of what's proper and what's not, rival exchanges are fine.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
I enjoy petty affairs.
RE: competitive clan suggestion
as the guy who originally made that rule, I agree with the fact that it is too stifling. perhaps a remake of it, as it appears far more overreaching than I had intended

RE: competitive clan suggestion
Who gives a shit about a little quip or insult. First off, the humanistic rule that claims that "everyone is a winner" is bullshit that modern society sweatily swears by. That's why kids get dragged to the principal's office for calling another kid a "numbnut" on Facebook. Secondly, how are we gonna build any character by restricting it? We're human goddamned beings; we all have some raw feelings that we oughta spill out.
(You know what repressed feelings lead to? Watch the news.)
The rule should be geared towards real shit like bomb threats.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
I'm with the opposing on this argument, one of the main reasons why I even got into competition was when I was nothing but a co-op noob and get destroyed in Duels or deathmatch or even ctf then I get the barrage of insults that I suck and that I need to improve. Although on zd it was a lot more harsh than just normal 'u suck' it was all the more incentive for me to get my act together stand up to my oppressors and prove them wrong, although my rage wasn't quite under control 4 years back, it was thanks to these assholes and elitists who chose me as their public dump that I now have the mentality to look over insults (not only in-game but in the real life as well) say "okay", not become furious but work myself into becoming a better person so I can hear those eggheads praise me at the end of the day.
Of course if people are gonna go back to the threats of old with their "I'll find out where you live and kill you" THEN thats when I call for a intervention and say yeah, those guys need to calm down.
Thats right people The internet made me a better person

Also, I do have to agree with Xen here. There's nothing wrong with a little smack talk.

We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
What Xen posted wasn't even trash talk. It was more criticism and I'm still confused as to why it was split.
I don't really care about a little trash talk here and there, as long as it doesn't go overboard.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
Rust explained it best.
I for one would like to see more clans step up and show their competitive edge. It's one reason why we play the game.

I agree with Xen here.
If we trash talk the lower skilled clans for being bad, then the karma will bite us from the back some time when they will defeat us, showing the trash talk is an actual motivation of getting better. Except, some people just use swears to counter it and not get better.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
Yeah, yay for "doom hate"!
RE: competitive clan suggestion
I'm for it, a little hate driven competition never hurt anyone; I think it would even liven the place up a little bit. But like most people have stated in this thread, it's imperative to keep it all within reason.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
Overmoderation of the clan section is old news, bear in mind that the section wasn't even meant to be introduced on these new forums as it stands. Unfortunately it escalated to levels that explicitly discourage people from posting at all since the rules are made as grounds to trashing anything that's not within standards set by those rules.
I've seen posts with zero harm level like "This clan will last 1 week max" being trashed, that makes it with little hyperbole the only allowed content being "best of luck, nice clan" (wasn't that forbidden as well?).
I on the other hand think that the clan section should be actually the least moderated. There is not a serious game discussion to be expected, nor you go there to learn today's wisdom of the day; it naturally revolves and rides on disputes and fights. "Useless" posts (which may be useless to the moderator but not to the ones involved) and non-personal attacks shouldn't be moderated. ZDaemon's clan scene was ruined partially by overmoderation, we shouldn't continue that path here.

Yeah, you better not make fun of names of clans like "Demon Riderz"; they'll trash your post for sure. Any innuendos are unacceptable attacks on the well-being of others.

Not that I care but you know, any insults or jokes do motivate people/clans to clan war and scrim. It HAS been like this before.Nautilus wrote: Yeah, you better not make fun of names of clans like "Demon Riderz"; they'll trash your post for sure. Any small insults or innuendos should be fine, as long as it does not go too far to the point of no return.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
As I said before, as long as it's not full on flame posts and downright trolling and shitting all over the place, it's alright. But I do agree with you. Trash talk should be for the servers, where it usually takes place anyway...I'm really hoping bringing it on here won't turn this place into a cesspool.Catastrophe wrote: I dunno, people have literally every where else in the world to trash talk.
We also want newer players and clans to feel welcome instead of a bunch of "get out" or "you fucking suck" comments. Criticism is fine and the competitive comments but like I said, it small doses. That attitude just makes people think it's ok to trash talk everyone when it's constantly spread around.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
On a further note, if you guys DO allow trash talking, then splitting questionable posts should be discussed with all of staff instead of the opinion of one individual. I hope you'll agree with me on this one.

RE: competitive clan suggestion
As long as it probably doesn't devolve into spitting hatred with lots of ethnic curses and stuff that's clearly over the top I don't see the point for mods to get involved.
