Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
Should we use Zandronum alpha builds for FNF and SNS?
A packed server running all day would be ideal for stability testing, and there are some features in the new builds that are really nice to have.
However, actually getting installing the alpha is apparently too much trouble for most players, and as a result barely anyone plays.
So what do you say?

RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
Hey Qent, thank you for bringing this up!
I'm not truly sure about using 1.0-alpha for the poll event. For every 1.0-alpha event that we (both FNF and SNS) have had, a fair amount of people were able to participate in it. However, the majority of servers that still broadcast to the master server appear to be using 98d. So, in a sense, I would assume we would be able to get more players by using 98d.
For anybody who is involved with FNF and/or SNS, whether it be an organizer or participant, I encourage you to place your input here!

I'd say stick to 98D until the first stable build of Zandronum. Then everyone will migrate.

I agree with The Toxic Avenger. I'm afraid of that alpha would make my PC unstable. Anyway you could promote Znadronum on server welcome message...

I've heard that in the latest alphas you can disable player telefragging. If that's true we should definitely use them. Telefragfests at the start are ridiculous. Also, I can't vote for some reason.

You probley need to make 5 or more posts. Its a anti-spam measure that has proven itself useful on forums.kuchitsu wrote: ... I can't vote for some reason.
Also, I kinda think it would be best to use the Zandronum builds. Seeing as there was a bunch of bugfixes, and stuff. Might as well get some testing and some feedback from the community.

RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
While I can understand using the Zandronum builds to test things out, it just won't get as much activity in the FNF areas. In the SNS areas, however, I can understand that. Why? All of VP's servers use Zandronum, not Skulltag. Besides, those servers do get quite some activity during SNS.
EDIT: Devil, that's not the case. Five posts and no ability to vote.
EDIT2: Scratch that. Had to let it fix itself.

seems like you're confusing Zandronum with a certain OS .FCx wrote: I'm afraid of that alpha would make my PC unstable.

I dunno what most of this means (age thing), but I would say just stick with Zandronum. All those people that enjoy SNS and FNF will switch over to Zandronum. The people that don't, will stay with Skulltag.
HA! Take that, Moon. Made of Cheese, my ass!

As much as I like the idea, the majority of users would not show up except active forum people who want to do Zandronum testing :(
RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
Agreed. Skulltag is going to be staying for a good long while unless we block all Skulltag clients from the master. (Not saying that's a good idea though.)Watermelon wrote: As much as I like the idea, the majority of users would not show up except active forum people who want to do Zandronum testing :(

I don't see a problem with using alpha builds. It's also really easy to get them working on IDE.
RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
After seeing how many people joined that football server, yes for zandro!
RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
If the alpha versions are generally stable, use them! It'd be a good way to make people migrate to Zandronum.
RE: Should FNF/SNS use Zandronum alphas?
No, I think that the community events as well as the most important public servers should run stable versions. You don't want crashes or bugs during an community event as it's bad publicity.

Well obviously we wouldn't use alphas older than the latest stable.
