I have a server running on a windows 7 x64 box. People can connect to it, but when I try to connect to it from another computer on the network(lan / router), I get continuous "Requesting snapshot..." messages.
Sometimes it wont say "Requesting snapshot..." but rather it will continuously say "connecting to [external ip address here]:[port here]..."
The server log just says "Connect (1.0): [ip address]:[port]" and sometimes it will say "Illegal command (4) from non-authenticated client: [user's internal ip]:[diff port]"
Google searching isn't helping. No one seems to know what the issue is, or how to resolve it.
And it will say "Unfinished connection from [user's internal ip]:[diff port] timed out..."
There is a post where a person named "one_two" says he got it to work by setting the server to show as lan. But I already have that: "sv_broadcast true" // Set this to true to connect over local area network
"Requesting snapshot..." connect to server issue.
RE: "Requesting snapshot..." connect to server issue.
When it starts saying that, open the menu, go to Multiplayer, then go to Browse Servers. Let the internal server list populate and then press Esc until the menu closes.
That always does the trick for me.

RE: "Requesting snapshot..." connect to server issue.
Thanks for your reply,
When I go to multiplayer browser, and select "internal server", it goes to console and says:
BROWSER_GetServerList Server List Exceeded (>=512 servers)
in green text.
I try "reconnect", and it goes back to saying continuously "Connecting to [ip address]:[port]..."
Okay, I got it to work by typing "connect [internal ip of server]:[port]" and waiting a good full 3 seconds, and it eventually connects.

RE: "Requesting snapshot..." connect to server issue.
I've always opened main menu as soon as first message (in console) appeared, worked every time, no snapshots. the connecting problem is normal I believe.

dear diary, tux today was a faggot again[/size]

I got it to work. I just needed to type "connect [internal ip of server]:[port]" and actually wait a full 3 seconds and it eventually does connect on the first try.
