I got this problem in skulltag (and skulltag is still related to this topic, isnt it?) where this following things happen:
1. someone type a message
2. I dont see it becouse of following:
2.1 no text appear on top of the screen, therefore its kind of logic I dont notice?
2.2 there is no sound then someone type a message
I hope you guys can solve this problem because I cant myself :(
I also noticed this going on:
I joined aow 2 at funchusher and gl_use_models where turned on, this is the same time as I found the message problem, the last server I played was an outdated GvH server.

Pressing f8 puts your settings to ignore all. Press it again to see messages again.

After you turn messages back on, bind something else to F8 to prevent this from happening again.

yeah, f8 toggles show_messages
it's useful, but it's not really worth having a key bound to it by default

that is true, and the message alerting the chat has been disabled is small, should do a sound or change color of it to red

Or just make the words "MESSAGES OFF" stay on-screen until you turn them on again.
