[FIXED with ZCC] Choppy Mouse Look (Zandronum vs. GZDOOM)

#1

Post by ∞Phantasm » Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:29 pm

I've always noticed that Zandronum's mouse-look is too choppy and thought that was just how it is. However, I started using GZDOOM and the mouse look is perfectly smooth! I tried matching settings between both and I just can't get rid of Zandronum's choppyness and I find it unplayable in this state, even if others do not notice or care. Something is seriously wrong. Does anyone notice this themselves or know how to fix it, if possible? I cannot find any information about this on the internet so it makes me think the problem is on my end, but I don't see how. Any help is appreciated. I have a Logitech G502 gaming mouse (tried all polling rates) and a 60hz Sony monitor (tried vsync on/off).

I'm not too familiar with this aspect, but does changing in_mouse through console ingame to different values change anything?

I tried all in_mouse options also, and they are all choppy as well in Zandronum only.

Does this feel any different? https://zandronum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6050
YES! What the hell? Whatever is different in that build fixes the mouse. Why can't they do that to the official build? Looks like I will have to use this instead. Thanks.

Glad I could help. It basically parses mouse input BEFORE rendering anything I believe, @Leonard should be able to explain it better.

That makes sense... they should really change Zandronum to do that. I can't believe it's been like that for years.

Interesting that nobody complained about this before. As far as I can tell, this has been in Zandronum/Skulltag for more than a decade. We'll port the fix over to Zandronum.
