Constantly disconnected by IRC
Constantly disconnected by IRC
IRC constantly disconnects me every 5 minutes with "Server Disconnected."
The only way to stop this is to SEND a message every couple minutes.
Using the same IRC client I can idle for days in any other IRC network... meaning this is a server problem not me.

RE: Constantly disconnected by IRC
I'm not sure but I think it's because of the netsplits (reason unknown). I'd wait for the server owners to look into it.
Also, your solution might be coincidence of some sorts. I don't really think it's possible for a message to save you from a netsplit.

It isn't a coincidence.Accelerator wrote: I'm not sure but I think it's because of the netsplits (reason unknown). I'd wait for the server owners to look into it.

I tested it throughly. I would send a message, wait 5 minutes, and almost exactly on the dot every time I would get disconnected.
Did it again, would message at 4:30ish and be disconnected at about 10 minutes instead of 5. This is a reliable test. If I don't message anyone I will be disconnected every 5 minutes.
RE: Constantly disconnected by IRC
I am looking into this.
Llewellyn, that's an interesting discovery. Can you test whether you experience the same problem when you connect to spectre.zandronum.com?

Try changing the port from 6667 to 9750.

RE: Constantly disconnected by IRC
my guess is that either your irc client isn't sending pings to the skulltag irc server for some stupid reason, or somewhere along the road, the pings got dropped, so the server thinks you died (five minutes is the ping timeout)
try connecting to skulltag IRC through telnet/nc and sending pings manually - if that doesn't work, then it's a server issue, and if it does, it's most likely a client issue
