serious framerate issues

#1

Post by Netherstorm » Tue Mar 04, 2014 1:12 am

I've been having some bad lag spikes with Zandronum, and it's pissing me off. I'll be playing single player and it will jump down to 19 fps and freeze up for one second and go back to 60 fps, and then does it again after 3 seconds. I have a GeForce GTX 760, Intel Core i7 3770, and 12 GB of ram so obviously my PC specs can't be the problem, it's just pissing me off since I didn't have this problem with my shitty laptop before or any other computer I owned. The same thing is happening even when I run ZDoom or Skulltag as well.

How can you fix this?

It happens with any wad I play.

Also, I'd like to note that this whole thing seems to be happening when I have OpenGL enabled. When I have the plain old Software render enabled, it runs just fine. Very weird, I played all wads perfectly fine on my old laptop with OpenGL on, so why does it lag so bad on a $1,000 gaming PC?

ehm it was not exactly what I mean xD...
what I mean is while you're playing does your activity time is at 100% (can be found on windows at task manager and performance window)
hmm I have something like that, but only when the place was using some kind of hd-texture...

Oops sorry, thought you meant hard drive space.

Activity time seems to be always below 30%.

As this issue also occurs in ZDoom, it might be worth it to check for help, or report it, on ZDoom forums.

Well, I seemed to have fixed the problem. I just had to restart my computer, so now Skulltag and Zandronum stay at a steady 60 fps.

ive had the same issue until i learned a console command playing on one of the servers and it helped a TON. i cant remember exactly what it was but involved setting "vanilladoom" to true using something like 'cd cl vanilladoom 1' or something to that effect. maybe someone who knows more about doom console commands can shed some light on this??
