Can't hear sounds in Zandronum

Hello dear Doomers,
a friend and I wanted to play Sunlust via Zandronum and so far it has been working fine - other than the sound. Music runs fine but we cannot hear any in-game sounds. Not the demons, not the guns etc. We've been trying all kinds of settings, downloaded the WAD and put it in the folder - nothing seems to work. Does anybody here know that issue and if yes, what solutions could we possibly try?
