Odd menu stretching in widescreen resolutions, but NOT on Linux [split]

Sorry for the big bump guys but i've been testing old versions of skulltag and zandronum and this started to happen in skulltag 0.97d.
But ancient ZDoom already had decent widescreen support and didn't stretch the menu (among other things), even the doom2 stock menu was stretched in ST and old Zandro. It happened with ddraw, d3d and the GL renderer and for me it was a showstopper. Seems you all used 4:3 displays back then but zandro2 was not that old. Glad that it's fixed in zandro3 but i don't know where. Was there an issue about it in the tracker?
