Fullscreen multimonitor problem in Gnome 2/MATE

Zandronum in fullscreen mode automatically mirrors on my two monitors and lowers the resolution on them. After exiting from Zandronum they still mirror and have to be reconfigured using the Gnome 2/MATE Monitor Preferences tool.

I have never experienced such a problem myself, especially as I don't have 2 monitors.

Does this still happen with other Desktop Environments?
Does this happen with other fullscreen games (Non Java)?

You could also try making a post about this on the MATE forums, only if this doesn't happen with another DE.
