Samsara has a script that does dozens of TakeInventories per tic per player. That was responsible for at least some of the problems that cropped up, e.g. jitter and players getting kicked for too many missed packets.

Qent has it. The short of the matter is, well, Samsara's never had this many dudes playing it before, and the sheer numbers of constant loops made the server beg for mercy.

From what I can gather Zandronum can only handle so many player updates every tic. 64 players completely vanilla is pretty much no problem, but when you add gameplay mods into the equation then things get a little questionable because there's a lot of extra data to transmit. While Samsara can handle a lot of people, even the biggest servers have never gone above 45 players. When you get a full 64 active players in the game, with new classes and weapons and constant checks running every tic, that’s a LOT of extra data to send back and forth from the servers to the players and back again.
Samsara has never been tested with a full 64 active players, and one_Two and Sicamore and I overestimated how well it could perform. If it was on a 32-player server, it would have handled perfectly. Hell, we even did do a 32-player-limit for a bit and it handled pretty well.

I want to personally apologize to everyone who was looking forward to this.
I really did not expect this to happen; I hastily plowed ahead under the impression everything would be fine, and it ended up disappointing a lot of people who were really looking forward to it.

why 1 life shouldnt it be unlimited unless its gonna be a massive amount of lag

They might be confusing this event for Doom's 20th Anniversary, since they're talking about tomorrow (er, today). How you miss the fact that Saturday Night Survival is on Saturday, I'm not sure. Or the fact that the SNS in question was three days ago, and all the discussion about it since.

But, I could be the one misunderstanding here.
