SNS #158 - Swift Death + Death and Decay

#1

Post by Sicamore » Sat Jan 10, 2015 6:43 am

After a short hiatus and lack of event #157 thereof, SNS makes a return for 2015! So get ready for some more fragging action and pack that health for when you need it most.

This week we are giving you four lives and Swift Death, a 2014 megawad that was the result of apparent speedmaps. It looks nothing like it however - the levels are more detailed than the regular stuff you would expect and kick some serious ass, both in terms of design and difficulty. Death and Decay will provide much needed monster and weapon replacements.

Try yet another audio reading if you are visually impaired but can still see this message (or you are just seeking a good time)

Hiho! Thought maybe someone should offer some remotely useful feedback I hope on any of these recent SNS events. This one was particularly fun, given how the duration of the maps match a Mini Scythe series it was notable how you'd include a gameplay modifier to enhance the difficulty hence the inclusion of 4 lives, albeit no one was familiar with the mod.. no one playing anyway, most complained it was a random mash of Realm667 with little balance in gameplay, suddenly being raped by a Vore or eat a Deathknight, also not to mention the number of one shot enemies, which led to teasing comments regarding whether the mod actually had any thorough playtesting and had been thrown with this short wad for the sake of it.

The majority of difficulty just came from the fact the maps were crowded cluster fuckers and you could be smacked by a random amplified custom beasty, not actually in the inherent design of the map requiring careful play but just blasting your way through from the 50 monster crowded starts, although caution was needed whenever a Thamuz showed up the fact item respawn was on nullified the difficulty present in DnD, although the entire wad was played so a great success it was.

Maybe a weekly poll should be the run with suggestions of potentially good mod and wad combinations to gather feedback on what the public would find appealing, given how SNS has been stagnant as of recent given from some people I've talked to about player participant ratios.
