ZTDM - 2v2 TeamDeathmatch Tournament

It will be the second good TeamDM tournament on Zandronum! This tournament will be ran and hosted by good old me and Decay. Let's start off with the simple stuff.

Basics

-2v2 format
-Signups start now and end Saturday Sept 30
-demos and screenshots are required on conclusion of tournament match
-practicing is encouraged
- Do NOT sign up if you aren't motivated to play


Time limit is 10 minutes and Frag limit is 75
Team damage is on
There is a force respawn timer on, at 5 seconds
Wad will be ZandroTDM-V-1i.pk3


Teams

There will be 2 divisions, ideally of 4 teams each. Division 1 will have the higher tiered players.
Find yourself a dance partner and give yourself a team name, then sign up. There is plenty of time to jump in the practice servers and play with a bunch of different people to find who you like playing with and trying it out if you haven't before.

Map Picking

Each team will pick a map and agree on a tie breaking 3rd map if necessary.
-no re-picks of previously played maps

Progression

-tournament will run in 2 phases
First a quick round robin. Each team plays each other in a best 2/3 format.
The second phase will be elimination, with seeding based on the round robin performance. Participation in the elimination bracket is not mandatory, but highly recommended.


Disqualifications

Teams who do not make themselves available to play will be disqualified. Team members will be banned from participating in future tournaments run by the hosts at their discretion.
If you do something stupid like a race to the bottom in frags (ie after 10 minutes are up team 1 is at -50 frags and team 2 is at -60 frag), you will be banned from future tournaments by the hosts.


Communications

It is highly, highly, highly recommended you be available either on IRC, TeamSpeak 3, or Discord to communicate with other teams and to talk to your own team mate. If you are not around, you run the risk of being disqualified. Don’t sign up if you aren’t ready to talk with others.

Flags

Basic NS flags will be implemented, however, jumping is only available on a few maps.
No Respawn Protection
Freelook on (but not required)
Allow instant respawn
Respawn timer @ 5 seconds

I don't like more than half the maps on this pack, after todays playthrough I can safely say they aren't enjoyable (care for a walk with pistol or getting stuck on ladders...) and make me seriously reconsider joining this.

I'll update brackets later when i get home. I also updated the mappack with a few things:

Fix bad hom in one of the onsl maps
Updated item placement in dbab02
Slightly updated item placement in one of the dgoth maps.

The pack has been out for a bit of time and i waited for feedback on maps and received nothing them all this time till now. I already stated a few times on irc and ts that a major update with additions and removals would happen post-tournament, so if you want to help the pack out by all means give critique because there has been none for a long time.

That's probably because we don't get to see these awful maps when we casually play, why would anyone want to pick them? It's only when they are put as the maplist for the tournament did we go "hmm there are maps like these too huh".

So after playing some practice rounds with Jason, Avernus, and Rust I can safely say that you can dramatically improve you tournament by 100 percent by doing the following

D5M7 and the Dbab map seem good and should be kept
D5M1 should replace one of the following maps

Darkgoth is probably the most meme map on that list and the most shitty. Skirmish12 and Brit1102 are a snorefest and while UDM307 doesn't have enough SSGs in the map or any strategy, it at least gives you weapons in comparison to darkgoth. Laz and the exec map are alright but not as fun as d5m1 or some of the vex maps in TDM. That onslaught map is probably one of the bumpiest, ugliest, darkest maps ever with shit flow. Where's the jump button? It'd probably be better. EON01 is too big. No one is going to pick it.

From the TDM experiences I'd had from the occasional sessions and that TDM tournament from a couple of years ago, I can attest that D5M1 is a most solid 2v2 map and should definitely replace any of those more forgettable maps.

I have a few questions of my own: What will be the schedule for each of the tourney stages? How much time will be allotted for the group stage, and then the elimination stage? Will the elimination bracket also be 2/3, or will it be 3/5?

What does this mean? Does that mean that the elimination bracket won't affect a team's final placing? If so, then what gain is there to play the bracket out?

Don't like the map list, don't play. There are others who are more willing to play on a different map set than just the same few maps. D5M1 was in the last tournament ran and D5M7 was in the first tournament as well as GW20, can't always have what you want. Try again next time lesser A3 members.

I can't play anything except two maps, the posts ^^

Anyways the preview to the brackets can be seen here (THIS IS NOT FINAL! WILL BE SHUFFLED PRIOR TO TOURNAMENT) and before the tournament starts myself or Decay will approach each team verifying in some way whether they are still able to play before officially starting.

Like I said if this is the route you want to take go right ahead. Even Zakken said that you could probably stand to at least take one map out in favor of D5M1. Instead of being an asshole about it why don't you actually try communication as to why a map that, right now is causing some controversy, should stay in the first place.
