IDL Moves to Zandronum

#1

Post by HumanBones » Wed May 14, 2014 9:52 pm

On behalf of the IDL, it is my pleasure to announce that beginning with next season we will be moving to Zandronum. This is an exciting step for us to take, as Zandronum hosts the most popular multiplayer and developer community. This of course means that we will be saying a heartfelt goodbye to Odamex after three successful seasons.

The league would like to thank the entire Odamex team of Admins, Developers, and Server Hosts. AlexMax, for being a walking encyclopedia and helping whenever was necessary. Manc, for not only hosting the IDL website and forums, but for getting the website up and running for us to use. Ralphis, for doing his best to recruit players and basically acting as the middleman between the Developers and the players. HeX_Vulture, for offering his servers as IDL servers in the event that ours went down. Finally, Dr. Sean, with who the move to Odamex never would have been possible. He is the absolute nicest and most helpful guy I've ever come across. He works his ass off and has had to put up with the IDL community for years and he hasn't quit yet. That should tell you something. I sincerely wish nothing but the best for all of these people as well as Odamex. I will continue playing and I am still, still, still waiting for Survival. Make it happen!!

On to the future, what we have in store with our new move includes:

1) A newly designed and easily accessible website.

2) A new version of the IDL wad, which will see it expand up to at least 40 maps. We will be scouring new wads for maps, so suggestions are always welcome.

3) Yet another reboot of IDL Radio, which has been dormant for the better part of the last year. I anticipate having quite a bit to talk about.

It is my goal to complete this transition and have a new IDL season up and running by the end of July. I hope to see you all there!

I can honestly say that this was unexpected. However, I am genuinely excited. Welcome to ZanZan.

So it begins. They are finally moving here at last. I wonder how Odamex feels about this.

In addition, anyone who is interested in playing or learning more about IDL can stop by #idl on quakenet IRC for the latest news on the transition as well as highlights for priv once things get a bit more situated.

Woot. I personally would have applied for IDL in either port, but the port change was definitely a much needed action, considering last season in Odamex left a really bad taste in people's mouths. Now, I wonder how many veterans will be coming back.

If the IDL needs some people's help managing around, I'm willing to lend a hand. Otherwise good luck IDL on Zandro.

Unexpected but nice to see the IDL is back. For whatever reason I wasn't a very reliable person in past IDL's mainly due to the timezones (and legion), although I would hope to sign up to for a season on this port.

Well, this is unexpected. But I am thinking this will probably not go so well since the other CTF tournaments haven't been finished, haven't been started or they were very slowly finished it.

Sorry for my negative attitude.

It will succeed, since it's IDL. But I still have my concerns on my side.
But I can say this, if IDL succeeds on Zandronum, then competition will, hopefully, come back strong as ever it was.

Is that some mass joke about this move being unexpected? It was predictable as...well, as something TTA asked me to not mention in the forums.

I'm glad to hear that though I'm kinda surprised, at least IDL will not die because with the move I'm sure that CTF / IDL veterans will be signing up to a future IDL season, and I might as well consider signing up and would be 100% committed to it (as for the Zan++ privs).

Good luck with that...

No joke as far as I know. I recall seeing people state that the IDL would never come here ever since the skulltag days of old. It was even laughable to ask if the IDL would come here. So, yeah. It is a little unexpected. I'm glad they chose to use zan though. Hopefully it will give the competitive scene a kick in the ass.

saw this thread on idl forums, was pretty psyched for it

But in seriousness this isn't such a bad move for the idl because in all likelyhood the same players from the recent Odamex seasons will probably sign up as well along with other players who refused to play on Odamex but are more open to playing on Zandronum. However this time around the 4th pick will be less likely to be thrown since there are actual players that show up on a daily basis, letting teams be somewhat more diverse now than before.

Ruin and Shane hit the nail on the head. I won't say IDL will magically function perfectly just because of the port change, but it should give the players more incentive to participate and cooperate.

Finally, the IDL HAS COME BACK. I think this could work out. Just need a solid number of captains, plus a good bunch of reliable players.
