This FNF should be on Zandronum

Since it's coming out very soon, we should attempt to get as many people on as possible for the FNF on Zandronum. Ideally I think we should just spam all of #zandronum and get every single person we can on for some fun match. Hopefully it's not some obscure unplayed wad (I'm hoping it'll be like Dynamite DM or ZDCTF so people wont get bored in 10 minutes).

Some of the FNF sessions are barely getting anybody, so I figure might as well pump out something that holds people interest for a long time (like Dynamite DM from my experience, or something where everyone can participate like ZDCTF that will test the core doom element) and do Zandronum one final epic test before release. One FNF out of the many to come wouldn't hurt right?

Thoughts?

tl;dr
- Spam everyone on IRC (I know you're not supposed to, but it's just this one time for a very important reason)
- Get an epic wad hosted that is sure-fire fun
- Get as many devs to play as well
- Attempt to break 33 players

I think advertisement servers would be a good way to go, but you'd probably need like 8 of them to get anyone's attention. Then there's the possibility that people will think it's acceptable to spam servers to advertise their projects.

Perhaps a pre-FNF advertisement event using 98d would be an idea, have a whole bunch of devs and players get a game of whatever going in it to inform more people about Zandronum, so that there won't be a problem if the FNF team decides to use it?

I have the feeling that most players are still unaware of the coming version change honestly :\

People should stop being lazy and let IDE handle everything, it's update does a very good job of handling zandronum servers...

is hard get players with zandronum because most of players are too lazy for downloads beta or just don't know how to use IDE right (for use zandronum), if fnf would be in zandronum i don't think we gonna have many players

FYI, I'm not available on Friday, but should be on Saturday evening if you want to organize a testing session where I'm around ;). In this case we need to agree on a fixed starting time beforehand.

Maybe if you try and motivate them by emphasizing on the "Over 32 part" (Make it sound like breaking a record) it will gain more interest.
Will try my best to participate.

Hey,

I did notice that this thread has been getting more attention recently. It is surely possible for FNF (and therefore SNS as well) to run an event using 1.0-alpha, especially considering how close it is to being released as a stable build. It would be amazing if we could get 33+ players for FNF and/or SNS, but do I fear that it may not go as planned and we might not reach this goal. The ideas posted in the OP are very good and I could try to see if the SNS/FNF Teams would like to do this for one week. I am not sure how they may like the idea though - some people might not actually share the same feelings about how using 1.0-alpha would affect the event.

My best advice to give is to, perhaps, make an event outside of SNS and FNF. This might give the event a great amount of support and plenty enough time to plan. If one were to do this, it would have to be posted here.

What are your thoughts about this?

^ Wonder if we could host two at the same time? People who want ST can play on ST and the ones who want to test Zandronum can go there?

While I very much respect that idea, multiple servers for FNF can cause issues, such as one FNF server going bust while the other takes all of the folks. AFAIK the only time we have run a multiple-server FNF was in early 2011 I believe when we ran 3 separate survival servers for FNF.

^ I agree. There will probably not be enough people to accomodate two different servers, and there will be perferrence to one particular server (Probably ST) unless you allow only one server to host the FNF on.

I believe the only way FNF and SNS could use 1.0-alpha successfully is if it announces that it's going to use the newest version while offering to help people set up their version for the forthcoming (I would assume) special FNF/SNS session. On top of that, posting links in public IRC channels and getting peoples attention and reminding them if they need help to ask everyday up to the sessions would help a lot. Not only would people remember, but they would be more likely to join up and play. So next week perhaps?

Sounds like a good idea, but how people will take notice to this event is the question. I'm up for helping out if this goes along.
